Use the app Park for night- orsearch for wild camping spots on the net. There is a Facebook page for Cl vacancies they are usually ok to take bookings for one or 2nights (but you have to be a member of th caravan and Motorhome club )
If it is the first time you have been out it is often a good idea to go to a nearby place in case the van has some teething problems or you have forgotten something. Wild camping is fun but you need to check you are not going to need water or waste disposal as you will need a site for that. I am sure others on the forum will have other good suggestions.

Download an app called park4night. It's worth registering it as it will then show you its full database, rather than just a limited one. You can then search pretty much anywhere to see places to stay. A lot will have some pictures than you can look at as well as some descriptions from other users describing it as well. I would also, if you start using it, try to leave notes of your own in the places you stay at as this will help users after you as well.

We don’t like sites either.
Another vote for park4night.
Also searchforsites.
Make sure you read the most recent reviews and look for comments about height barriers, off-road track, any width or weight restrictions.
Having said all that, we rarely stay in the U.K., usually head straight for the warmer climes of France and further south where they’re much more motorhome friendly.
Although a few aires (some with facilities and some not) have been created in the U.K. of late, quite a few in Scotland it seems. Take a look at the CAMpRA website and Facebook page.

It’s worth joining Britstops. Has places all over UK you can stay for free. Pubs, farm shops etc. Expectation is in return you spend some money at the business.
