This is why I love the French since the Revolution

Always amazes me the lengths the French in particular will go to in order to avoid paying. One aire I stayed on had an honesty box suggesting a donation of 3 euro, which of course I paid as quite reasonable. I doubt the French mh which was the only other occupant of the aire did. I have seen them leave for an hour or so and return after they know a collector of fees has been though it probably costs them as much in diesel as the usually very small fee.

We quite like Blaye. Nice views over the river and a good walk round the Citadel.
Parking machine was working last December when we stopped there. I even saw a few using it. :D

We like Blaye, but would never stop in the harbour car park. Much better to stay at the wine Chateau 10 minutes walk away. Nice grass to pitch on overlooking the vines, clean water and dump, toilet and electricity and all free. They do not push you to spend any money with them, but I would recommend their 4 course lunch. 23 Euros each and that includes different wines with each course. Maximum 48hr stay, but that suits our wandering.

Yes it is Blaye and the sign applies to that part of the car park in which these motor homes were parked. The machine was not working (or so we were told we never checked. Fougeres last night and the castle was free du to weekend patrimoine.
