Parking around Caen

Does anyone know if you can park in the docks at Caen over night or if not recommend any where else nearby ?

We always park at the free 6 bay aire 10 minutes drive away from the ferry port at Hermanville sur Mer. Lovely and quiet.

We used it last week, Tuesday, 11 March. One other van in. Quiet, no illegals. 10 minutes to port.

We use the aire at Rots in the hypermarket Cora carpark. Quiet no immigrants and Cora to buy stockpiling.

Thanks everyone , it’s a bit disconcerting when you drive in , illegals everywhere. They try the old trick of one of them waking out in front of you to stop you while others try and hide under the van but i didn’t slow down so ok . The check in man said we could not park in the port but next to the check in kiosk he says it safe enough , not so sure myself let you know tomorrow ?

We were going to park up last year but in the end paid about £40 extra and went on the 11pm sailing, is that an option ?

well got a knock on the van door late last night here we go I thought it’s a police man telling me to move or a very polite stowaway but it was neither, it was a very nice french man from Britney ferries asking if I wanted to fill the last place on the midnight boat . Dam right I do I told him so disembarked this morning in Portsmouth and now home . Thoughts go out to all that are stuck over there good luck ?

I felt really sorry for the people of Caen when we there last about 3 years ago there was about 3 illegals hanging about but now there are huge gangs milling around everywhere ,they have a big encampment on the last roundabout and quite threatening . The whole town was shut except the burger bar on the front all quite sad must be hell for residents ,now I know some of this is down to the virus precautions but it used to be a nice little town to spend a night or two not now . The police where doing a great job of keeping them of the docks but the rest of the town seemed besieged. Why do the authority’s allow this to happen ?

Here's another place close enough to Ouistreham but far enough away to not invite 'Illegals'
This place is close to Hermanville and gives direct access to the beach.
It's a car park with authorised Motorhome Parking between 8.00pm and 10.00am.

We use it regularly.

When we were entering the dock at Ouistreham a couple of weeks ago, (the 8.30am ferry) this was about 6.30am I Know???
There were a couple of vans parked up inside the perimeter of the port.
However, those 'vans didn't join us on our ferry, there were only two vans
I would have seen them.

Just been emailed from some friends who decided to stay in Spain who have just Been told they have to leave on Tuesday ,no where to go no where to stay and the ferries and tunnel in chaos . Uncertain times indeed and nothing we can do to help frustrating times indeed
