i prefer oil painting, and like to paint most subjects although have painted more horses and portraits than other stuff, its nice to do a mix though, i generally work on about 5 or 6 paintings at a time, as sometimes if i get a block on one i move to the others, also if i have a bit of oil left i may use it for the other ones, i have also done some water colours but not many, i use griffin alkyd oil paints which dries virtually over night so enabling work on the canvas next day, where original oil paints take weeks to dry, its a lovely way to spend a few hours and what you create is hung on the wall if not your house someone elses , i have given works to charities in the past to raise a few funds and indeed given two to Jim to raise a bit of money, all helps eh keep painting, any one can do it :):):)(y)

Oh Goshawk.... Ability to pain is something I would LOVE to have.... My heart has been willing in the past but somewhere between my head and what my hand does ... I lose it!!!!

Please put some of your paintings on here for us to look at or a link. Would love to see them. :)

Hi Goshawk, I paint mainly in watercolour, I've had some lessons in oils and my teacher is determined that I keep going but I've found oils much harder to grasp. I think it because my watercolour style is very loose and free, ironic really because as you know oils are supposed to be easier!

I attend a lovely art group on Wednesdays in Carmarthen, if you are ever interested in coming along, let me know.

As above - brilliant! In our family, only Helen (daughter) has artistic talent; nothing like that, though..... (y)

Interesting work there Goshawk - you don't shy away from difficult subjects like running horses and waves together. I'd struggle with either even if I painted, which I don't. My favourite's the pirate and I like the ambition of the hunt scene - lots of different subjects in there. You should consider exhibiting them somewhere if you don't already.

My Dad spent some years painting watercolours and he used to sell them locally. It comes in very handy when my local auction house lists a framed print as an original painting and some mug bids it up to £300. Because I know what real paintings look like close up, that mug isn't me.

many thanks to you all for your kind comments , tootles:LOL: very funny im still grinning whilst writing this, rosierose, i generally work from photographs it makes it somewhat easier, i have quite a few and sometimes mix the scene up, scotjimland, i must have painted that scene 6 times with the persons name above the door, although each one is slightly different, i have paintings in lots of places, i try to get enough to exhibit but every time someone calls they want one, i dont mind at all, i also go to (if possible) someones place and photo myself, the three horses were photo'd seperate, then i put them together, as long as i have a good photo i dont mind, recently done my grand daughter on a horse, and a surgeon and his wife
Once again many thanks to you all :):):):):):)

Excellent pics, I once thought about trying to paint something, bought a canvas, oils, brushes and eventually gave them to the charity shop!, just couldn't get round to even trying!
Cheers, Dave(y)

mousy we can all paint , just differently, keep at it , davejen its a great hobby, dont rush and we all make mistakes, i find some things difficult and have to work at it when other things seem easy, but this is the result of many years of effort :):) and some things do not work, i am just doing a poacher and have changed the sky 3 times, each of the 3 horses were painted 17 times on a build up, so patience is also required, good luck:)
