I understand you can but don't use metallic paint as the little flakes of metal can scatter the signal.

Asked the same question about my sat dome. The point about metallic paint came up and the paint supplier told me that the moondust silver was a metallic paint and could not be anything else if I wanted a match.
I took the chance and sprayed it and its been fine. That was the dome not the dish.

Have seen one painted with a giant smiley face. But months ago, watching a dish turning round and round, up and down, searching for a signal it reminded me of a turkey. Could deck it out with tail feathers and a red rubber glove 'wattle' ...........

And probably bring it down with a 12 gauge!

I wonder what would happen if you were on site, and one of these dishes started to do the tango, or whatever, and you shouted PULL.....Then shot it!!

Keep threatening to have a full size smilie face painted on mine.
Then leave it up facing my neighbours house as she's the most miserable old bag I've ever known. Might bring a smile to her face but I doubt it but at least it would compensate for listening to her little rat dogs barking all day long. :)

you painted the dome !!!!!!

that's what I was thinking...

A dish is a reflector.. so non metallic paint won't affect the reflection qualities.
A dome on the other hand has to allow the signal though.. not reflect it. Depending on paint type and how thick it will attenuate the signal.. at worst, reflect it.
It may work fine in strong signal areas, but as you move to the edge of the sat footprint you may lose the signal sooner than a non painted dome.

Edit
just found this.. from TracVision.

"you may paint the TracVision dome if you wish. However, to minimize signal loss, do not use a metallic paint. Also, please use a minimal number of coats as excessive layers of paint are detrimental to the signal."

Was hoping to paint it today but it's raining!
Roads in "rip off" TDF Yorkshire will be interesting if it rains.
