I normally get Eurotunnel and if you arrive early very often you can get an earlier train. I am getting the ferry is this the same or do you have to stick to your time. My ticket is not a flexi.
Thanks in advance

You have to stick to your time or pay. DFDS wanted twice more again than I had paid in October to go on the 18:30 rather than the following 05:30, we stick to the one we had booked.
P&O are usually the same.

Sometime since I've used the boats, but it used to be that they'd put you on a ferry before or after yours, subject to space, although they occasionally wouldn't put you on an earlier one f0r no apparent reason.

depends a bit if you arrive earlier than you should sometimes if they have space they might offer the one about to depart , done it a few times , doesnt always work even with a flexi ticket .

I haven't failed to get on an earlier ferry when I've arrived a couple of hours early. They have once offered me an earlier crossing for an additional fee, which I refused, but they put me on it anyway.

It must be theWelsh charm, hasn't happened to me for many years.
I once arrived at the Norfolk Line check in and said, "Sorry we are a bit early" he said "yes, three days early." But let us on the next one. Doesn't happen to me now.

We travelled on P&O last month. Arrived early for both crossings and we were put on earlier ferries at no extra cost.

We always book P&O through direct ferries and the fixed price cheap ticket for a fixed time ferry. Been back and forth on 8 crossings, 6 with the motorhome and 2 with just the car and every time we've arrived a couple of hours early, always been offered the earlier ferry and never been asked for additional payment. Probably tempted fate now lol.

Last time at Dover on DFDS we were early. The guy checked with the loadmaster about the earlier ferry and said it was full - genuine, as we saw an artic with a close-coupled trailer backing off to be replaced with a conventional artic.

Thanks everyone they let me on 2hrs early - no charge. Never again though, what a pain compared to the tunnel.

Standby for the opposite view.

Get up, saunter 20 min down A2 to Dover, check-in, while waiting for ferry, have shower/shave, make coffee/breakfast and sandwiches for crossing, en-route stroll around deck in daylight(Basia can smoke), check whether Captain is passing ahead or astern of the tanker in the Westbound shipping lane, watch the White Cliffs disappear - knowing French food is awaiting. Buy a case of Rioja on offer at ÂŁ3/bottle.

What is not to like?

Better than stuck in artificial light on a noisy train.

But then I have been sailing for 40 years. Cast-off for'ard, cast off astern. Breeze in my hair - bliss!:):)

You arrive in France on a ferry - you're injected into it using the tunnel. But each to their own.

For me the 90 minutes or so sitting outside on the aft deck in the breeze is part of it - we hit the road south on arrival so I'm usually stuck inside the MH until teatime.
