Hi
I'm new to this group. I have an oyster satellite system with 85cm dish. I had it fitted by jacksons back in 2007 on my old van and transferred it to my latest van. It's works perfectly fine except in spain ( since found out the footprint has been reduced and can't access services with this current set up in spain ). My question is ! Do I need a complete new system or can my old system be updated in some way to allow usage in spain ? TIA

You won't be able to uprate your system to a big enough dish to get an Astra 2 signal in most of Spain. There is a workaround to get a signal from Intelsat 901 @ 27.5W but it gets quite involved with a card and a new receiver

You can watch illegally on Intelsat 901 (use to be on 907) it carries the UK back up channels. You will need a sat receiver capable of working at the high frequencies 901 broadcasts at. Plenty of info on the net about and on this forum .
My first van in 2008 had an Oyster I don't think it had Auto Skew I don't think you can pick up 901 without altering the skew if that's the case you may have to get up on the roof each time.

Probably far easier to stream as the main channels all stream live TV now on their catchup channels.

Firestick for us. But would be different if we were big consumers. more catch up and netflix than anything else

Going to ditch the dish and put more solar on this winter.

We have inherited the same system with our 2006 MH, and are unable to get Astra2D/E/F in Southern Spain, for the very reasons explained above, and without the auto skew, I can't be bothered with the hassle of manually adjusting the LNB to pick up Intelsat 901.

As Lenny suggests, we stream using a Firestick, via data through our MiFi and Poynting antenna.
The fly in the ointment now is the data capping when roaming in the EU. :(

Good luck with it. (y)

Jackson’s are very knowledgeable about picking up UK TV in Southern Europe. You could do a lot worse than discuss it with them.

Yes we are the same with roaming cap. We capped at 25 gb each but when you're planning a 7 week trip to Spain that amount of data won't touch the sides. I watch rugby league ( leeds rhinos ) and 1 game takes on average 1gb data alone. So was just wanting best of both worlds I suppose but don't want the expense of new complete setup. Cheers

You can sign up to Spanish sim provider, giving you 300Gb a month for around £40/€40, then suspend it at £3/€3 a month until you need again.
Carpmart Harvey is your man to give more info, as he introduced Funsters to it.

Edit......Just found it.

Cheers,

Jock. :)
