I feel I can now answer my last post over Powder Coating in full.

Question. What are the similarities between an Oyster Cytrac Vision Twin satellite system chassis and a Smart fourtwo car road wheel?

Answer. They are both manufactured by a German company. They are both made out of cast alloy. They are both covered by powder coating.

Question. Which one is 13 years old, has lived outside on my drive and has been driven most days in winter on salt covered roads in the North West of England?

Answer. The Smart Fourtwo Alloy wheel.

Question. Which one is 2½ years old and is fastened to the top of my Motor Home and also lives outside on my drive, but is not subjected to nowhere near as much road salt but, is nearer to the sun?

Answer. Oyster Cytrac Vision Twin satellite head unit.

Question. Which one has been replaced twice with the same recuring fault, due to the Powder Coating breaking down and the cast alloy oxidising?

Answer. Oyster Cytrac Vision Twin satellite head unit.

The Oyster Cytrac Vision Twin is:- "ten Haaft satellite systems are characterised by high security, optimum performance, and simplest operation. All devices function with only one push of a button. That is quality for feeling well! We offer a 3-year manufacturer's warranty on our product portfolio".

Question. Are Oyster Cytrac Vision Twin satellite head units manufactured to Marketable Quality.

Answer. Motorhome Funsters Decide.

Ten Haaft have ruled they will NOT replace the Head Unit again but will only replace the arms that are affected. They will NOT replace the cast alloy base and all other cast alloy parts which ARE affected. I have been instructed to cover the cast alloy parts in grease to stop this breakdown of the powder coating recurring.

I have watched the replacing of the entire head unit twice before and I have offered to complete this task myself being a retired electrical/mechanical engineer. I would then return the old unit to the supplier. Unfortunately, the UK supplier is governed by what Ten Haaft decide, which is not very promising.

By the way my Smart fourtwo alloy wheels have NOT and never will be covered in grease.

Kindest Regards Colin

Good afternoon Mr Bland,

This is not a fair comparison that in any way reflects on the quality of our products.
The timescales and the number of replacements do not correspond with our records. As you are aware, we have offered to replace the affected components (shown in your own pictures above) of the roof unit as a good will gesture and we believe that this is a fair resolution considering that you actually purchased your equipment 6 years ago.
I have forwarded your post to the managing director of Oyster UK who will be contacting you directly by email.

that tyre needs looking at.... its 11 years old and there is craze cracking in the walls :whistle2:

Good morning Anthony
I agree that the system is 6 years old and has worked faultlessly for the 6 years I’ve used it. All the electronics, slew and elevation system are of exalted quality. It’s the Alloy frame construction of the Head unit that lets the system down. That said it has never stopped the system finding or locking onto a satellite throughout the 6 years.
It is the exposed head unit only that has had to be changed on 3 occasions due to the powder coating breaking down.
Anthony, you Julian and Oyster sat-tech UK has always given me and others exceptional service, and I apologise if I have offended anyone at the company.
I have contacted motorhome fun administrators to try and get my post removed as requested by Julian.
I hope you appreciate my frustration of this cosmetic fault occurring on the head unit only every 2 1/2 years.
Kindest regards

Good morning Mr Bland,

I believe Julian is in the process of replying to your latest email.
You have not offended anyone here and we will continue to offer support to yourself as well as all of our customers when it is required and I thank you for your comments on our support/service thus far.
As I have said before I completely understand your frustrations and I have been relaying all of your concerns to them as well as making requests on your behalf. As you are aware they are offering to replace both sections of the system that you have highlighted in this post. Unfortunately this does not extend to the base area which you have mentioned also however if you would like to take them up on their offer and fit the parts yourself then I can still go back and accept their proposal and give you full instructions on fitting as well as the offer of support on the phone should you run into any difficulties. If you would like to take this then please drop me an email and I'll organise everything however I do appreciate your concerns and if you wish to continue to liaise with our colleagues in Germany to argue for a complete unit replacement then I completely understand.

Many thanks for your understanding with us on this post.

I think your Smart wheels are an exception, the Oyster is typical of powder coating in outside environments. At 6 years old if it was me I would strip it down remove all the corrosion and give it a good paint job.

Didn't know you could buy a Smart car for £1600!

Must go and get one (y)
