Hi just had van at weighed and was 80 kilos over, guy said I should be OK as I am allowed 5% but not 100% convinced can anyone shine any light on this before I chuck SWMBO out

5%-10% over £100
10%-15% over £200
15-30% over £300
More than 30% over Court summons

It all depends, if you have an accident and it is shown that you were overweight then there will be no tolerance. If you were stopped at a road check and you were up to 5% over then generally at the discretion of the officer they can give you a verbal warning, but they could also make you unload to the limit at the roadside. Over 5% up to 10 % a fixed penalty notice. Over 10% a court summons.

But this is all up to the discretion of the officer concerned.

The problem is that the weigh station you were at might have been under reading by 5%.

What are the rules in the EU?
Even in the UK it is a guideline they can still do you if you are a kilo over.

But what I find amusing is the tolerance on a plate weightbridge is ±110 kg and a Dynamic weighbridge is ±150 kg on each axle.

Play safe do what I do travel 300 kg under.

Quite serious I run 300 kg under my max.

I like the licences you youngsters have means my daughter can't borrow my van (she is only two years younger than you.)

I am not saying I might be over the GVW today but within the axle limits, but I will be glad when I can dump some water after showers tomorrow. 😂

I run over twice that underweight…… the van, not the porky driver, that is

Think of spending £1,500, on top of the cost of your MH, on a C1 licence course and then you have no worries about choice of MH and payload.

It could increase your enjoyment of MHoming. and be worth all of £1,500.

I have my C1, thankfully my employer paid. Sadly, Lucy does not and she hates driving tests.

I am still hopeful that the Government changes it so the C1 is abolished. If not, I have to be careful. 🤷‍♂️

You are right though. It’s worth the test for less hassle.

I was 3500kg after solar and inverter but no passengers! wished I'd weighed when I first got it as I suspect it was no way near the claimed Miro of 2925kg

Page 312 has the answer in the most part. That says:

NON-COMMERCIAL DRIVERS
In genuine cases of ignorance e.g. moving house, and where the offence is unlikely to be repeated, a prohibition should be issued, and an overloading guidance leaflet handed to the driver. To take into account the Public Interest Test no Fixed Penalty Notice should be issued in these circumstances.

Just been to weigh bridge to check the accuracy of MIRO which is stated at 2955kg on CoC. Took out everything so just left with about 90% diesel, 20% water, me, cable reel, small gas cylinder, supplied tools. It weighed in at 2920kg, 35kg less than MIRO. Now I'm wondering where it's lost weight seeing as how we had a Dometic FreshJet 2200 (32kg) fitted after we bought it so I expected the weight to be up around 2988kg. There is also a large Fiamma factor fitted awning, maybe that was included in MIRO though? I know MIRO can be +/- 5% but I was not expecting the figures I got.

The consultation was not about abolishing the C1 category but about changes to entitlement. Perhaps they will make it easier to get the C1 category but nothing I read suggests it will be changed from an HGV category which is subject to renewal and higher medical standards.

Full trim before we came away on our trip I ended up being 3850kg, I put semi air on the rear and upgraded Koni shocks and springs on the front so it rides high at least!
