Just read a blanket statement online relating to this season about no sleeping in camper vans at Val d'Isere and Tignes. This isn't new but in the past it has been allowed in the car park at Tignes Brevieres. Not an official Aire but we'll known and accepted. I can't tell if the situation has changed or whether it's just not been mentioned as it is an unofficial facility. Has anyone been there this season 2016-17 and overnighted without problems? TIA, Ruth

Now can answer my own question. It's not changed at all from when we last went in 2013. Officially not allowed but it is still tolerated at les Brevieres. Here at present. Friendly Gendarmes. Probably only place in Espace Killy that you will park up at all. Have established that there still is nowhere in Val d'Isere at all.

I have seen similar signs, on speaking in Local Marie office , general consensus appears to be that this direction is to aid moving on Romany travellers who attempt to set up camp.

The reason given in official published tourist info is avalanche risk throughout the 2 resorts Tignes and Val. Locals we spoke to dismiss this as an excuse. Personally I think they just don't want or need the business. These are rich resorts. Just my hypothesis
