I need to find somewhere to park from late night/ possibly as late as midnight for a morning tunnel crossing. Any ideas anyone? It is not possible to get tickets to france at night as there are none available on frequent traveller. Any ideas?

Blackhorse Caravan site, Hawkinge. Canterbury Park and Ride Aire. Stop 24 Services for a long coffee break?

Not certain, but I think the Canterbury aire entrance closes at 7:30 or 8:00 pm, and the Stop 24 is two hours stay max or it’s £20+ for overnight in the lorry park (sleep might be difficult)!

Remember you can get to the tunnel 2 hours or so early. I often stop several times on the way down from Tyneside (Wetherby, Cambridge services etc) for a few hours each to eat and sleep then get a nap at the tunnel. Just need to be careful to be rested enough for onward travel the next day in France / Belgium.

Just booked blackhorse ferry pitch. £30 for 4 of us and no issue with arrival time. Hopefully a better night sleep than on a lorry carpark!

We have always parked at the sports club behind the burnt down Morrison’s.
It’s always been very quiet. Usually only us there.

Morrisons completely rebuilt up and running! Not sure about Sport Centre car parking. Seems strange the gates aren’t locked.

On reflection this is also the emergency services parking for paramedics etc so that would explain why it’s open.

Ah! Last time we were there was last year as when we went over in January we stayed in the car park of a dingy pub not far away, for a change. Can’t remember the name of it. It was a Sunday evening and they weren’t doing food but they rustled us up some nachos.

Wouldn’t have been The Nailbox by any chance? Think that is one of those Brit Stops.

First 2 wouldn't want a midnight turn up +cpr is shut to entries,

£9 someone posted for car/mh recently?

No it was something like The Drovers Arms (?) in Capel-le Ferne. It’s on Park4nite, but doesn’t give the name of the pub, which is handy! We won’t be rushing back there, though. The car park isn’t huge and there’s a right of way running through the middle of it for the static caravan park behind the pub which further reduces the amount of available space. Also the toilets were disgusting and the whole place was very “tired”. However it is a place to stop if you’re desperate.

Just remembered The Drum at Stanford off M20 near Tunnel has a lovely little site and serves meals for future reference.

I phoned and spoke to the campsite, they have ferry pitches and give access codes specifically for late arrivals. I said it may be as late as midnight and there is no issue with that at all.

Blackhorse have an excellent reputation with travellers. Have specific pitches for late arrivals and early departure!

We've parked overnight at Farthing Common, which is a pleasant spot only a few minutes from the Tunnel.

At £20 or so just to park, regardless of how much you spend on food they can shove it..

Do a search for 'The Master Brewer', that is my go to stop before the tunnel (about 10 mins) does decent pub grub and is/was free to park up over night... no need to buy a meal either.

Amazed you can even get a Motorhome round there let alone park for the night!

The Canterbury aire has an automated barrier, that recognises your number plate. We arrived well after 8 and it was ok, and we weren’t the last by a long way. It was a princely £1 from 8pm to about midday, because the busses aren’t running (£7, normally, I believe) this was last Tuesday.

Also if not a large van you will see nearby Little Switzerland uneven road but good places, in that area plenty of options, apart from the Seafront where parking is banned 6pm to 8am for campervans.
