Morning
Was thinking of taking a trip in the Outer Hebrides this September/ October but are getting put off by reports that motor homes are not welcome...... and there is no where to empty toilets, grey water, and fill up with fresh?
People experiences if you would be so kind.

not long enough
total rubbish, very friendly, we have used sites and wild spots, there are plenty of options to fill and empty, but we tend to use a site every third night to be sure :)(y)

September possibly the very best time to go as well, weather can be surprisingly pleasant then

It's totally untrue to think mhs are not welcome. We spent 2 months up there last spring and had a fantastic time. Loads of places to stay, official sites, wild camping and designated overnight parking spots. Very easy to drive on the narrow roads as good vision, little other traffic and numerous overtaking pull ins.

I don't think MHs are unwelcome, provided you are sensible about selecting suitable spots for wild camping. There are one or two hot-spots that have been declared out of bounds, such as overnighting in the dunes around Barra Airport, I believe. But, there are a few campsites available across the islands. Additionally, there points to empty toilets at various ferry ports, including some inter-island ones.

When we last went - a couple of years ago - the tourist office was very friendly, and said parking overnight should not be a problem as long as we didn't stop too close to any private property.

And my advice is buy single ferry tickets as you go, rather than a 'Hopscotch' package. Little difference in price - in fact can be cheaper buying singles - but it gives you absolute flexibility. So if the weather suddenly cuts up too rough, you can escape on whichever route you want back to the mainland.

Just go! We went last year and had a great time. Buying single tickets or a hopscotch makes no difference.

GO you'll love it , we do. Here's a few pictures to whet your appetite. We've done it in our big mh and Pug our pvc . We managed in the big one but it was a lot easier in the pvc. Take some food supplies onto the islands as we found, on our first visit , pubs and restaurants are few and far between.

We're planning on doing exactly the same in September this year so watching this with interest. All reports I've read so far on this site and Facebook have been very positive about.

Cheers Al.

Most people welcome motorhomes, especially the shops you are spending in. We felt very welcome.

Whilst on the subject would anybody like to give us their must do, must see, must eat, or must drink list during our visits.
Walking will be high on the agenda and not shy to do a dozen or so miles
Again thanks in advance

We've been twice for 3 weeks at a go . Put some places and pictures in the other post above. We bought a book and some hopscotch (reverse) tickets first time. Planned a route . Second time we winged it and just went with the flow.
When we did the NC500 we popped over for a few days just to do a whiskey detour.
We've been very lucky with the weather on all our trips. Fingers crossed you are too.
