Sorry to say I know places where it would have been cheaper.

And I note the bill was not on an official approved till roll. They are still 'at it'

Anyway Robert and all continue to enjoy.

As I said in my previous post I lived in Greece in the 70s but could only get a 3 month tourist visa. So I had to either appeal to immigration or leave the country. So a few trips to Bulgaria and Yugoslavia. It was a real pain but they were very strict about it with massive fines. I did that for 5 years. Doesn't mean to say it will be the same now though. There were also big restrictions on how much money you could take out of the country.
Yes but that was pre EU as far as Greece was concerned and the Colonels were still in charge. All I am describing is how non EU nationals are treated where their country has an arrangement with the EU. The same way Brits are regarded by Oz and NZ. When/if we are not in the EU, we will be a 'third country', too. We may have to develop strategies to dodge around the regs but they will be there. Good opportunity for a Turkish ferry company to introduce a route to Sicily or Genoa!

Well it was just after the Colonels. I was in Athens at the time of the student riots and the return of Karamanlis and lived there for another 5 years after that. So yes it was pre EU.

Kalimera Campers

After a windy end to the day yesterday we woke to a calm and sunny morning

After a bacon and egg breakfast we continued our journey south, crossing the bridge which links western Greece with the mainland near Patras

It most certainly is a wonderful sight, but at €20 to cross brings a tear to the eye.

Our journey has brought us past Corinth to Mycenae, one of the most important Ancient Greek sites

We’re staying at CC 65429, which is in a national par and has wonderful mountain views.

We’d hoped to visit the ancient site this afternoon, however there’s a thunder storm brewing, so we’ve put some washing on and will have a little snooze whilst the storm blows over and will check out the old rocks tomorrow.

Hi Robert, lovely pictures thanks for sharing.
Just wondered whats the LPG situation, diesel prices over there like, are there many places to get the Gaslow tanks refilled or are they sparse, I know there are apps available but I thought I would get it from the horses mouth so to speak.

Do storms always herald your arrival in Greece? Have you offended one of the gods? The god Notus brings late summer storms but it is too early in the year for them so it can't be Notus or rather Nothim.

You may have attracted the attention of the top dog, Zeus, who is associated with thunder and lightening. A goat may have to be sacrificed. They are tasty in a stew. :)

High Les
LPG is widely available
Diesel prices vary, though I did see it today at 1.44 on the motorway and 1.33 yesterday
Haven’t needed to fill either yet though
Tomorrow is fill up day

How fortuitous
We woke to the sound of wild goats browsing near our van this morning

Here’s one we spotted yesterday

Must have gone up a lot I think we paid about €8 in 2015, that was going north. Came back on the ferry for €6, much nicer than flying over the bridge.
Last October when we crossed the bridger, the winds were so strong I honestly thought we were going to get blown over.
The seas were so rough the ferries didn’t operate for days

On a brighter note....sunset and moonrise in Ammoudia. Parked up at the end of the beach by the River Styx...gateway to Hades!
We anchored in the bay and went up the river in the tender last year. Not too far as it gets a bit mozzie infested, and it wasn’t very interesting.
Personally speaking and only my thoughts,I’d imagine there would be some sort of grace applied to either side
Personally speaking I think it’s unlikely, especially if travelling through France.
Yachties from non eu countries who want to spend longer in Greece usually dip into Albania or Turkey for a day or so, depending which side of the country they are currently cruising.
We will be getting Greek residency before we go back to the Uk next month. It’s a simple and free procedure according to people we know who have done it, which entails giving proof of address (contract and a letter from the boatyard), proof of €3600 each in a bank account, three passport photos each and health insurance. Then if/when the U.K. leaves Europe we can spend as much time as we want on the boat in Greece and still have 90/180 in the rest of the EU.
Yes I remember it well. We had #5 daughter and #5 grandsprog (aged 3) aboard at the time. We hunkered down in a sheltered harbour (Sami on Kefalonia) with several lines ashore and two anchors out. It was windy but flat. One day we cycled over to Agia Efemia to see what it was like as the wind was blowing straight in there. It was taking a real buffeting. The Sailing Holidays flotilla based there had sustained damage to several boats and had put most of its punters in hotels for a couple of nights.

After last nights thunder we woke to a bright sunny morning. We got up early so that we could get to the ancient site at Mycenae before it go too hot and before the tourist busses arrived

We had a pleasant surprise as we left the site, a large tortoise was crossing the road. Thankfully he’d made it safely to the other side

Our original plan was to travel to Leonidio today, which has a quaint little harbour. However we’ve decided to give it a miss as we stayed there last year.

Instead we’re heading a little further down the coast to a freeloading spot at Fokiano.
The reviews on Google Maps are excellent, however they do mention not having any phone signal so may not report back until tomorrow.

Change of plans
Couldn’t make it to Fokiano
The tarmac road ran out with 15km to go and the gravel road was steep and narrow, so I found a place to turn round and we’re back on the main road having lunch and a re think.

Certainly lunch with a view

Theres a nice one a bit further south at Reichea (Vlychada Beach). A few switchbacks and a steep decline but manageable with care and worth it when you get to the bottom, with a lovely beach, but no signal, tis on the map...
