OUCH !!!!!!

I’m in (Greater) London today. In my car not van. And lucky it’s exempt the commission zones. On a Friday afternoon it was relatively quite going through central London. On my way to Bromley. 🌟👍

I am afraid it is a sign of the times. You have an old motor (pre 2016 and Euro 6 spec diesel engine) and you will be clobbered. There has been plenty of news coverage for a number of years. London is not the only city with such charges.

Cities with clean air zones

Bath has a Class C clean air zone.

Birmingham has a Class D clean air zone.

Bradford has a Class C clean air zone.

Bristol has a Class D clean air zone.

Portsmouth has a Class B clean air zone.

Sheffield has a Class C clean air zone.

Tyneside (Newcastle and Gateshead) has a Class C clean air zone.

Future clean air zones

Greater Manchester (under review).

Types of clean air zones

There are 4 types of clean air zones, Class A to D.

ClassVehicle type

BBuses, coaches, taxis, private hire vehicles, heavy goods vehicles
CBuses, coaches, taxis, private hire vehicles, heavy goods vehicles, vans, minibuses

Minimum emission standards

Each vehicle type has a minimum emission standard. You can find your vehicle’s emission standard in your vehicle log book or from your vehicle manufacturer.

To avoid being charged in a clean air zone, your vehicle must meet the following minimum standard:

Vehicle typeClean air zone minimum standard
Buses, coaches, heavy goods vehiclesEuro VI
Vans, minibuses, taxis, private hire vehicles, carsEuro 6 (diesel) and Euro 4 (petrol)

Local authorities may set a different standard for taxis and private hire vehicles. You should always check if you will need to pay a charge or contact the local authority for more information.

That mouth piece of the UK the BBC news agency (a bit like TASS the Russian news agency) claimed that the folks who protested quietly about the ULEZ were Far Right Wing protesters!!
Shameful abuse of the people who are forced into that illegal tax called the TV licence fee, so we are all expected to pay to be abused by the BBC.

How do you know you need to pay?
I drove round Bradford mostly on the ring road.I went online expecting my registration to have been read if I had gone into the Low Emission zone. The web site does not identify my MH but allows me to pay!
Not only that, I could have paid for any city with such a scheme.
Does the scheme rely on " honesty" or is there a site that tells me I need to pay like the Dartford Tunnel toll

The fines are far too high. Rob a shop or an OAP and get a conditional discharge and a 20 Quid fine that you can pay off at 50p a month. Enter a clean air zone and lose your shirt AND life savings.

tax on the poor no one drives a 12 year old car out of choice

Well we do. We have a Honda HR-V which is 22 years old which we bought for £2,000 7 years ago.

It is in fine fettle mechanically and cosmetically.

It was found for us by our neighbour garage who knows his Hondas and knew he would be the one repairing it if it went wrong. It just sailed through its 'MOT' last week without needing anything done prior.

We are not poor - just careful, and richer for it. ;)

Lot's of people do. That's like saying no one wears Primark clothes by choice people have different priorities on what they spend money on one person's want is a waste in someone elses eyes.
