Are they any good with bad backs? Had one for 25 or more years cos I am lop sided but of late it's impinging on more than just me. Scared of upping pain killers for obvious reasons. Had nerves fried around that lower joint some 15 years back. Fantastic for 3 years. Second fry up not so good. So need some new ideas as this brain is only half the age of this body and the motorcycles need exercising. Ta

I've found them very good - better than conventional medicine for some issues.

See if there is a spinal touch practitioner near you... If not, chiropractors or osteopaths.

I would also ask what exercises you can do to strengthen your muscles to help your posture when it gets back to being correct otherwise you might find you need more treatments in the future.

Oestopaths have their uses, they can usually put it back in working order for a bit but it can be fairly brutal. I think paying more attention to your posture is important so think about how you are standing, sitting etc. I was up for surgery at one point but then discovered that a brisk walk sorts mine out pretty well, because it gets some heat into it perhaps??

Osteopath for me everytime. They should give you an exercise stretching routine to follow as well as their examination.

Having had back problems for years, the only thing that has ever helped is losing a bit of weight and core exercises combined with stretching and a back block for which I use a foam roller.

Try reading this book as well.

I used to use a Chiropractor, £35 for 15 minutes. It worked for a day or two but then the same. Wouldn’t touch them now, the joints need moving and that’s better achieved with exercise and a back roller rather than manipulation, or at least for my back it is.

Had Physio at the hospital a couple of times for my back both times followed by a course of back exercises in the hospital gym, which worked wonders.
Tried an Osteopath once, never again, didn't do anything for my back.

Go online and find the spinal exercises which is what the physio will give you to do. You also need to look for the exercises to increase core body strength.
You could try acupuncture which gave me some relief but it didn't last. Tried osteopath and chiropractor neither of which resulted in any long term solution.
Ideally you need an MRI scan and a consultation with a spinal specialist to understand exactly what it is that's causing your problems. I was eventually offered some drugs from the pain specialist but the possible mental side effects were so scary I never took them.
Try to avoid doing things that cause the flare ups (I had to give up riding my bmw) and currently completely refurbishing a bungalow is not helping too much but sitting about is just about the worst thing you can do. As mentioned above walking works well for me.

Practitioners vary. Hearing about “brutal“ visits mean youve gone to one who isn’t in to a holistic approach and soft tissue work
My partners a retired osteopath so im a bit biased but do know from professional chats that these professions can vary enormously. Ask about approaches.

After a year with the physio I then moved to a weekly yoga class which has kept it at bay.
It was a normal class, but since the pandemic hit she has moved on line

She is going to keep the online classes going (as well as the studio classes once everything opens up)

Body control pilates helped me . There are different types has to be body control.
