Does anybody else love open water swimming?

I started about 3 years ago (although been pool swimming all my life)

I'm currently training for the coniston big chill which is the length of the lake ( 5.25m) just wondered if anyone else was a swimmer or planning on doing any sporting challenges this year?

I love open water swimming, when I was in my 30s I swam so far out from Littlehampton beach that the life boat came out to rescue me.. I declined their offer of a ride back in and wish I took it up as the tide was going back in and nearly took me up the river estary, I ended up knackerd back on the beach.

When we were kids we always swam in rivers,lakes and reservoirs ...

But I do miss my high diving and was a Surrey school champ at that....

Never liked indoor swimming pools learnt to swim , firstly in the open men's pool(now gone)on Plymouth Hoe ,progressed to the sea and the diving boards at Tinside (H&S gone!)
Have done the swim to the brakewater ,all in younger years with plenty of stamina,nowadays a dip in the med or briefly off the back of the boat .

If only, with my doggy paddle I wonder how long it would me to do 5.24km?
