I switched on inverter while waiting for my wife to try her hairdryer on it. Whilst waiting a few moments it went pop a alarm started to sound and smoke poured from it. I removed the unit and three 40 amp fuses had blown I have replaced them but as soon as I go to wire it back in it shorts whether on or off. So my question is can it be fixed ? If so where or how ? Or is it bite my lip and buy another what would that cost me ? Fitted was a Moore power 2500w. I tried contacting them but looks like they now out of business. Please advise my patients is getting thin lol

sounds like the insulation on the transformer has melted or some other component has gone short circuit fubared right good and proper. Do you really need one that large? Modern electronics are seldom worth repairing time to buy another I'd guess

Please do explain
If it keeps blowing fuses it obviously has a fault ......im just saying I wouldn't trust it

A few years back when I had my vw camper and used to attend the vw shows at Malvern there was a fire one year where the guys van was completely destroyed due to a faulty inverter ....can actually still see videos of it on YouTube

I suppose I'm just saying that I'd get the opinion of a qualified electrician in person after him testing it as to whether it can be repaired I wouldn't take the chance otherwise

I've heard others say that 12v hair driers are not very good. My wife uses a 240v hair drier off the inverter that only uses 1000w. Not easy to find but they are available. I have a 1200w inverter and everything seems happy.
We also have 380w of solar to get the batteries charged up again after the hair drier has been used.

Not at all I've actually just agreed to buy one myself from a chap on here ....that said when wiring it in il be putting it through a cut of switch and an inline fuse just in case ....its only a 600 watt though not as big as yours

I have to say though watching that van go up that time then hearing what caused if has made me very nervous .....not sure how insurance looks at it

Took a very large online retailer who specialise in batteries, chargers and inverters litterally six months to get my Sterling inverter replaced under warranty. Bougth in December, returned to their trade counter in February and on the fourth visit back to their trade counter, they gave me a new one last week. They never returned a single call. So if you have a Sterling product, you might be in for a wait!

Whilst digging out pics for my showcase thread I found one of the pics of the camper I mentioned that caught fire due to a faulty inverter .........not a pretty site but a worthwhile reminder
