I've got a good 1/2inch router but it heavy and cumbersome I've also got an Hitachi router I bought 15 years ago but it takes 10mm tools which are im possible to get is there anyway to convert it to 1/4 shank?

It should be able to change the collet from 10mm to 1/4 inch
 
If you take a pic of the bottom of the router I will be able to help you more
 
I love routers and I have a few. The one that gets the most use is the small 1/4” trim router. I recently upgraded to a cordless and it is straight up amazing.
Instead of fitting a smaller collet considering getting a smaller router. Corded trim routers are not much more than a branded collet for a larger router.
