On the Galicia Santander to Portsmouth

You know things are bad when the staff start showing you how to put on your life jacket and you have only just left the harbour.

7 metre waves decreasing overnight.

Must say it is rough but hey ho!
Alton Towers comes to the Bay of Biscay!:giggle:

Got to ask. Do they ever cancel the ferries due to bad weather?

PS Glad I pulled the handbrake on hard and put her in gear!
I was on a cruise a couple of years ago sailing out of Southampton that was held in port, delaying its departure, due to bad weather in the channel. Even when we sailed the next day it was still extremely rough going

Certainly remember on the Dover Bologne crossing once when the staff handed out sick bags as we boarded and the Captain saying we are about to turn towards Bologne so it could get a bit rough. 🤮🤮 Not quite sure how he would describe the state of front the sea before we turned as the horizon was disappearing well above and below the front windows. 😂😂

Last time we sailed back from Bilbao our van was outside. By the time we arrived in Portsmouth I had over £3000 worth of damage. Brittany blamed God and the insurace company blamed Brittany.
I wasn't aware they still had vehicles outside on there ferries.

What was the damage? Ours got encrusted with salt.

Exactly what I did when at sea…… sleep like a baby

……..waking up screaming and hungry every hour
Sailor's tip.
Just have strawberry sandwiches as they taste the same coming up as they did going down. ;)

You will be fine as I believe the ship was made in China:unsure:
The starched bamboo shoot ribs should be OK, but I hope that the water doesn't get to the compressed rice paper hull!

hi guys . we will put up with the drive through France & run the gantlet with those French drivers than go on that . give us the tunnel anytime dover Calais is our crossing but not since covid we wouldn't want to board a ship with people . val

If the ferry home is as busy as the ferry arriving today then no vans will be outside.
All the 'big' leisure vehicles were at the bow and left via a nearside opening.
The only cargo that was outside were stand alone trailers put there by port staff.

If anyone has been over to the Scilly Isles on the Scillonian they will remember that all the seats used to have plastic buckets under the. I don’t know how true this is but I was told it was considered the roughest ferry crossing in the worl-I used to live in St Ives bay in 1974-77. The generally accepted thing in Penzance was that the Scillonian would roll on wet grass-it was flat bottomed and only drew about 5 feet to allow it to get into St Mary’s harbour at low tide……

Used to be and old ferry out of Heysham that rolled about even in the harbour,,BUSBY.

How does the loading generally work on the Santander ferry, first in the queue goes inside? If so does that mean all those Motorhomes were late arrivals, seems like a lot of them outside, I wouldn’t like that regardless of the bad weather the salt spray is bad enough
