Every time I leave my puter I "Shut Down"...

Then have to go through the rigmarole of starting up, signing in etc..

Does it do any harm if I were to just put it in Sleep Mode or Hibernate.. ???

Even when I go to bed... Does it use loads of electric or does it harm the puter..?

Still have to start up, but what I was doing/looking prior is there straight away and don`t have to open anything..

Ta..

Is it a 'puter or laptop Mo? I leave my laptop (Mac, no PSU) on all the time.
If it's a desktop ('puter) then the PSU (Power Supply Unit) may overheat if left on all the time.

The spec says it has a solid state drive Mo so it should be fine to leave on. As @jollyrodger said, it will 'sleep' when you close the lid.

Morning Mo, mine a PC and goes on in the morning when I wander down to collecting the milk for my breakfast and pass my office and it stays on all day until we go to bed.
During that time the screens (I run 3 on my system) go black after about 10 minutes of non use but the system is still up and running in the background.
Bought this system 3 1/2 years ago and have been doing the same from day one and did the same on systems before.
Usually only run the laptop and tablet on their battery so switch on and off as I need to use them.

I think, if it's solid state, just shut lid after use throughout the the day then shut down properly at night.

My PC is never switched off. Ever. I have the OFF button set to SLEEP. No reason - just laziness. In fact I'm sitting here on Chester Fairoaks typing this and, assuming the house hasn't burned down, it's sleeping at this very moment.:)

It may not be SSD depending on age but hibernation is fine regardless.
I use iPad, desktop and laptop and they are rarely shut down unless going away for a few days or longer. Never had an issue with power sources heating up.

What version of Windows are you using Mo? With my Windows 10 start up and shut down are much quicker than older versions. A matter of 10 or 15 seconds at most.

I am pretty sure it`s windows 8... cos they keep sending me reminders about updating to 10...

But I don`t like change..

I usually just close the lid to put into sleep mode but then I do unplug the power cable from the side. I don’t like leaving it permanently connected after reading some scare stories about the batteries overheating.
If you do this and don’t “shut down” for a few months, be prepared for slow running for 15 mins or so when you next “start up”, as there will be quite a few updates to install. Mine doesn’t do updates when asleep.

I turn my laptop on in a morning then depending on how long it's gonna be left 'alone' I'll either put it to sleep or turn it off and back on again later. I can't see the point in having a piece of machinery running for nothing for hours and hours on end for no reason. Hubby tends to turn his PC on in a morning and shut it down on a night, but put it into sleep mode when he's not on it, which can be quite a gap, but it's still 'alive'.

In the old days I always said to turn them off when not used but that was due to the power consumption and the older ones being more prone to PSU failure.

It could well be that your laptop isn't a SSD one Mo as I've certainly had them that weren't.

I don't know what "assistive technology" is!
It could simply mean using larger text than normal but don't worry about it as they don't check anyway!

I always shut down when I leave. Tooo tight to leave it on.
I use Google Chrome and if you change the settings to 'Save where I left off' it remembers all your recent pages.

If I put my office laptop to sleep it takes longer to wake up than if I turn it off and then turn it back on again. I do tend to have a lot running at the same time though
