If you have a laptop and are worried about it overheating if you leave it on, simply stick a couple of pads/feet underneath it at the rear so that it lifts it up to allow air to get under it, it also makes it comfier to use, I got a pack from a £ shop which had some thicker ones in, but if you can't get the larger ones, just stick a few together to get a bit of height.

I turn my laptop off if I am going to be moving it. Is that an outdated idea, does anyone know?
A laptop is designed to be used “on the move” to a certain extent. Mine is certainly jiggled up and down , dumped on the floor, picked up again and so on. It’s ok to use them whilst travelling in cars and on trains so no need to shut down whilst travelling.
Obviously needs to be secured if not holding it and so closing the lid and stowing away a good idea.
