I fitted a nice system that was mains and I converted to 12v.. It is an amplified system with base box and speakers ..

Works really well UNTIL the sun shines brightly !
I am getting noise from the solar panel controller. It is a very expensive very posh controller ( name eludes me ) and has never been an issue before

As far as I can think, I need some sort of dc filter to remove the noise..

Anyone recommend something suitable ? I know there are various filters meant to go on alternator type feeds but they are in general cheap and nasty AND from experience do very little

Should have said.. tried a ferrite ring, tried a ferrite block, tried a couple of ferrite beads.. no joy

Not thinking from a vehicle perspective necessarily, more a general sound one. Have you tried shielded or screened cables to the speakers?

If the noise is high pitched try a ferrite ring on + & - and a 0.22uF capacitor across the same wires close to the audio unit. The capacitor should be nearest to the audio unit. If low pitched try 10uF capacitor. If you have the original mains PSU remove smoothing section just before the output terminals & fit it to the audio unit.

Alternatively you may have an earth loop: try a screened power feed to the audio unit from the same +12 and earth connection that feeds the TV (a bit of TV/Sat co-ax will do to try it); or try disconnecting the earth at the audio unit. It may work quietly using the audio cable screening without a separate earth.

I will try a few more variations of caps etc..
It is def coming up the power lead, and def emanating from the solar panel controller when it is in full drive ( so to speak )

Stuck a small scope on the thing yesterday and there is was.. a nice saw tooth on the output of the controller, so it is not radiating in to the cable, but actually a component off the delivery voltage

I think you are proly right about using the filter circuit on the OE PSU but it will be a reet pain to do to be honest !
