Hope someone can help me our motor home step has suddenly started going in and out by itself even when there is no key in the ignition

If this is happening on the Autotrail Arapaho as per your profile picture you will find a small electronic box behind the drivers seat, called an EM50. As the step is moving in & out it shows that nothing is wrong with the motor but possibly the relays/electronics. You don't need the key in the ignition for it to work. The step will retract in 3 ways. 1. Manual by pushing in the button or switch by the door. 2. By locking the door with the remote. (Locking the door with the key does not operate the step) or 3. By starting the engine. We had a similar problem, that our step had a mind of its own and when it did retract it would not retract completely. A bit long winded, but there is a fuse in the EM50 that controls the step. Take this out carefully, clean the contacts & re-insert. This may help. The EM50 (manufactured by sargent ) can be refurbished for around £35 + postage & returned within 5 days. There are many threads on here that may help you and many replies too!
