Hi I have just bought myself a Auto trail Apache se 2007 , On buying it the seller said the omni-step was stuck out and it was a little fix to sort it, well after changing the EM50 box behind the drivers set this still did not work ,then I took a look under the step and released the arm from the motor that attaches to the step and the motor worked but only one way, has this got a retractable relay hidden some where as I have looked everywhere and can't find a thing, or am I looking for the wrong thing ?
please help

Doing web searches you will find this a common issue and some relating just to Autotrail.

Here are some pointers.

1. Dirty step, they attract lots of road dirt so can get clocked and need a good clean and greasing.
2. Low habitation battery can stop the step from retracting.
3. Faulty micro switch on the step.
4. Polyfuse. Was an issue at a certain time with the Sargent units. The fuse fitted were from a faulty batch and needs a replacement.

Hope that helps.

Well that`s our 13th year & still loving it.
As said above because of it's location on the Apache the step will collect all the road grime, I did chat with one of Autotrail's CEO's asking why they didn't retract the step into a box to protect the wiring and workings, we'll look at it was the reply, as that chat was 12 years ago it must be some chat as they still haven't fitted any protection.
I fitted protection around our step and have never had any problems, I would suggest checking the whole system out starting with the obvious ie Step mechanism, the electrical connection under the motorhome, unless the hab battery is totally flat I would expect the step to move if only a little.

Ever since lighting was by Calor gas.
Retract it asap even if only by bodging.
Mine's manual and I forgot to retract it in the Cotswolds. Had to move close to the side in a narrow lane. It caught a roadside obstruction that tore it away and made one heck of a mess of the m/h's lower skirt.

Check the micro switch with a multi meter. If it does not open and close and remains in open circuit condition then power can not be applied to the motor to retract the step.

What happens if you half put the step out can you retract it. The reason I ask is perhaps there is a perimeter micro switch

Hi Vic when disconnected the arm from the step of the the step motor then you can fold the step back in manually then connect the arm back onto the motor press the button and it goes out but does not return back in if that makes sense
cheers

Sounds like a faulty M/S

Have you disconnected the arm from the step and see if the arm retracts?if it does make sure that there is nothing jamming the step from returning.
