Jeffers has only gone a bit wild on eBay and bought us our first Motorhome ! Ex-caravaners so not completely new to roving about but it’s been a few years!
It’s a 25 year old Hymer on a Ducato base, should be picking it up at the weekend, so have to say a bit excited. A few bits of welding needed and a good service and some tarting up inside to do.
Advise needed re installing more seatbelts too. Any funsters in around Torquay ?
Also do need to apologise in advance as there WILL be marmite in the van( plus gin!)

Congratulations on your purchase.
There may be issues installing extra seat belts..try searching as I'm sure it's been covered before. But good luck!

Advise needed re installing more seatbelts too.

doing it correctly can be an expensive job, they will have to be three point belts on forward or rearward facing seats.. not side facing.. you may also need new seats as rear seats in older vans are not generally constructed for using with seat belts.. often just a wooden box with a cushion..

insurance will also have to be informed and any work approved.. they will also be examined by the MOT inspector..

Can I add seat belts to my motorhome?

It’s not recommended by industry experts. And simple commonsense can explain why.

In many instances, if original conversions weren’t designed for additional passengers it’s not a good idea to think they can be easily adapted to do so.

Put simply, older motorhomes may have forward-facing seats without any kind of restraint. But, they will not have been designed for the retrofitting of seat belts. Even if specialist fixing points are provided in the base vehicle, do note that the seat bases themselves, as well as other aspects of the conversion work, will not have taken into account the adding of additional restraints.

Consult this company to see if it is feasible.. http://seatbeltservice.co.uk/services-repairs/camper-van-seat-belts/

I think it's probably best to know why the OP wants or needs to consider fitting seat belts. They actually stated re installing more seat belts rather than retro fitting etc. It could be read as replacement seat belts. Think it's best that the OP returns and find out what they mean

Good choice of van but forget about trying to add seatbelts even if it can be done it will cost a lot, would need a very strong frame installing that is seculy fixed to the chassis and may need an IVA inspection.

Firstly welcome,
Secondly somebody will come along and tell me I am so wrong but i remember something about pre 2004 vehicles whose V5 states that it is a 5 berth but they only have 4 seat belts are legally allowed to carry 5 people in transit.

The only problem with that is insurance, ours only insures you for carrying the number of people you have seat belts for. Having seen the carnage of no seatbelts, would not be happy to transport anyone without one now.

Not long enough!
Hi and welcome!
Which model did you get?
Can you clarify if replacing existing seat belts or wanting to add extra?
