Paid a lot of money for Sygic Truck 3 year licence about 18 months ago and have been complaining about it off and on ever since. Firstly because despite it saying I takes into account weight and size for RV/Motorhomne routing, they admitted that it doesn't if you are over 3.5t. They said they would be correcting this.

Also had some terrible routing decisions and lack of rerouting.

I have been receiving their updated releases for testing and have been hoping these would be corrected. Decided to take the van out for trip today just because it had been standing a while. Set the SatNav for a destination in a village about 13 miles away on Motorhome setting - navigation said it would take an hour (!) to get there. (Google maps said 28 minutes)

So, off we went - Sygic decided I should take a narrow lane route - so narrow in fact that I ended up at a 6' 6" wide bridge which I clearly couldn't cross - fortunately I was aware but just wanted to see what it did. OK, turn around, set it to Truck and try again - same result 6'6" wide bridge on the route. Did take me an hour in the end due to the route it chose.

Came back and Sygic just couldn't sort it out - eventually just reverted to Google maps for sensible route via main roads.

Don't buy this app!

I will second that, it's useless and we only have the RV camper version, not the truck

£69.99 for 3 years but crap nonetheless, even though weights inputted it doesn't seem to acknowledge them.

The trouble with any of this truck caravan software is it's only as good as the database it's using, if your with restriction isn't in it then the software won't know it's there.

Paid for co pilot and despite widths, length weight etc. only about 90% accurate. A decent atlas and Google maps are a must. X goody is not alone in being sub standard for whag its advertised as.

Couldn't agree more about Sygic routing. Took the 3 year RV subscription out when CoPilot got trashed by Trimble and Sygic failed miserably in Devon and Cornwall. No way am I trusting for our upcoming 2 month European trip (that's if we do get away, as the plan was to head to Austria and Switzerland).

It's back to a 'Chinese' trucknav for me as my old one never failed to get us to where we wanted safely and without any stress. Any recommendations?

My Xgody with iGo Primo seems to function faultlessly for £50, far better than the Garmin I paid £80 for a few years ago!
Free map updates from the FB group helps too.
I used to love IGo Primo on my Clarion stereo until 18 months ago I paid €60 for a map upgrade and since then it has plotted lousy routes. Also its got worse at sending me down very narrow single track road with low bridges despite being on the Lorry & Easy setting.
I complained to Navitxextras who you get the upgrades from, all they said was nothing to do with us TomTom supply the maps.

We used to plot our routes by 'via Michelin' once we has the interwebnet thingy. Always used Michelin maps (the ones like ordnance Survey maps of the UK) and the Firestone ones for Spain (they don't make them any more though) so after they invented SatNavs, bought a Tom Tom but once we could no longer get updates for the mapping eventually invested in a Chinese one but dunno from whence they source their mapping.

In any event we carry a large scale Michelin road atlas book in the van, and an AA ditto for the UK. Sedge is quite good at map reading having simply had many years practice navigating here and in Europe for her first husband before me.

Their lifetime map updates are usually out of date, and often missing the truck (.ftr) files. :(

Some use TomTom mapping, whilst others use HERE mapping, which is better. (y)

Our current 9" Chinese Sat Nav with built in dash cam came with TomTom maps, which I deleted and replaced with HERE Truck maps. It is similar to the latest X4 9" model from XGody, (available from other sources), however, you will have to update the maps upon receipt. ;)

As Scotsblood above, I source my updates from the Nozatec Users Facebook Group. (y)

Having experimented with Google maps on my smartphone, in an area I used to drive coaches through, and which I know extremely well. They took me down routes in an historic Georgian town, which were clearly unsuitable for an 8 x metre MH. :(

Cheers,

Jock. :)

We just use Appple Maps now which I guess is the same as Google maps.

Absolutely brilliant as a sat nav although as far as I know it doesn’t have a truck setting.

We gave up on sat nav’s a while ago and now only ever use google maps
The best sat nav we ever had
I have been saying this for years now, no point in paying for any of the others, Google maps is way way above any of them and for free ,what's not to like, works whether you are driving or walking, got all the restaurant and shops , well just everything really and it also remembers where you have been for the last 5 years.
The only thing I have found it doesn't do that you could need is to tell you what lane you need.

We have Blaupunkt in the MH which uses Naviextras that I don’t like and hated it in previous MH’s, now using TT Truck which I think is great

I jumped in our runabout a while back that doesn’t have SatNav so used Google maps via my phone, set off to pick up an item to a small town nearby that I knew but not the destination address hence using Google, it took me down the Motorway on a roundabout tour that took an hour, came back on a B road that took 10minutes.....says it all for me.

Mine is on a Clarion stereo running windows CE can't find any free or cheap updates that work on it. They cost €60-€80 depending on the offer.

There's a setting for avoiding motorways that you can use on each journey, or just tolls

I tried using via Michelin, route planning is good but useless as a satnav, when you are on a main road tries to send you off on country lanes for miles then back onto the same road.

I'm a fan of google maps particularly like the traffic information. I rely on eyes and common sense for the truck settings but then I'm frequently in a truck.

In congestion around cities it is superb. Traffic jams and slow moving traffic have pin point accuracy. Voice activated I tend to use it as a preference and we have more than one phone in the car at all times. (y)

Thing is most people have already got it on their phones but don't know, every android device has it on from the start, it's there for free but they still ignore it and go paying 10s of pounds for another thing that doesn't work as well. :doh:

Another thing that has been touched on is its routing, but when you put in a destination you usually have a choice of routes and can choose the one you want, if you see that one is going to where you don't want to go, choose a different one.

Can you use Google maps off line or do you need a phone signal all the time ?

Nearly all sat navs do this.

Whilst Google Maps is 'ok' on my Android phone, I haven't found a way to create custom routes, I never let any device work out my route, why would you?

So it's Garmin and Mapsource for me all the time... plus decent maps to plot my routes.

There is a choice to route via somewhere as many times as you want.

So I've been told, but whilst it's a doddle on a laptop/PC, I've never been able to do it on my phones.

Here is a screenshot of a route from uttoxeter to Stafford with stops along the way
