Forgot to fetch the bikes this trip but then remembered this one was in the garage

it’s a lovely ride and it works, rescued from a skip a couple of years ago, 3 Sturmey Archer gears smooth as silk. 80s it is, if it was a gents I would be riding it all the time.

They don’t make them like this anymore, I have a problem with my 2009 electric bike, I phoned the shop he said we don’t support or repair those anymore we have a new one you could buy. Er no thanks I’d sooner stick with my old ladies one for nothing thank you. It works.

Your totally correct. I've had this wife thing for nearly 50 years and it's brilliant. I've been looking at an Escort RS2000 and forgot how fantastic they were to drive. I've a modern car, it's totally crap and tells me what to do.
Enjoy.
PS GARAGE?????

Have driven a couple of old cars recently
There is a reason they don't make them anymore
They are $#@*
Compared to performance, handling and comfort of even bog standard modern cars they are dire when you put away the rose tinted spectacles

And they rust

Is it worth looking at an electric bike forum, they might know of a place that would work on them.

I disagree in my opinion old stuff is much better made. I’ve put my spectacles away and for a fit person an old un is much more reliable than the trash made today.

Disagree with this 100%, old cars are about driving enjoyment, not just sitting in a box.. I drive an 'old' car as an everyday vehicle, a 'kitcar' I built my self in 1998, based on a 1986 Ford Sierra, brings a smile to my face every time I get in it... huge fun and nice to drive.

Plus, I don't have to take to a 'technician' to have it plugged into a computer to tell me what's wrong, it can be serviced with knife and fork (a bit of an exaggeration there)..

And it will never rust.

Maybe i am bias but when i take Bertie out i have to drive it. No electronic gizmos like what's in our Velar.
It's an absolute joy to take out for pleasure drive.

Let me guess, the pedals go round all the time and won't freewheel ?
No, even though battery says full on both the battery charger and the bike computer it has no power one shop said it doesn’t sound like battery but no one wants to look at it because it’s too old.

I’ve looked on done forums and it could be a number of things that go wrong with them that I wouldn’t be able to do myself.

As part of your enjoyment and a hobby/pastime I get it same as LesW with his kit car
Like folk that have track/race cars great fun for what they are but most driving is a means to an end and the easier and more comfortable the it is the better
You don't want to spend a couple of hours setting up the carbs on the car you use for work each day?
As a vehicle you have for a thrash on a Sunday morning that's fine and it's great that people do want to keep them going
Steam engines are great and folk spend huge amounts of time keeping them running but as a means of mass transport they would be dire, nice to see but dire

In the years gone by i have done all the racing on bikes and different cars. 15 years rally driving (mainly raids/offroad).
Now mature into my 70s the E-Type suits my now slowed down needs. To cruise along in a V12 hood down is now my idea of heaven. Still love all forms of motor sport.

Nothing wrong with that but would you chose it for a daily commute?

I used this as my daily commute from 1998 to 2007, until a change of job gave me a company 4x4.
Now retired, it's my only car

No of course not. If i could only have one car in the household it wouldn't be an E-Type OR a electric car.

If the battery is okay then could there be a break in a wire or an issue with the motor? Is there any noise from the motor when it should be working?

As always it's a question of tracing the fault / power until you find the problem and then trying to fix it.

Thanks, I cant really hear the motor so that’s what I suspect it is, none of the Kalkhoff dealers will touch it due to it being 2009 they said, all happy to sell me a new one mind😩

Getting back on track what a pleasure it has been riding this bike this weekend, it feels so solid, so well engineered

The gears change lovely everything works, I cycled to the restaurant and fetched back 2 take out Sunday lunches in the front basket which we ate in the Motorhome.

There’s many a good tune played in a old fiddle you know. Especially if you haven’t had your bow out for a while.

Since no one will touch it and it's not much use not working why not have a go at stripping it down and trying to fix it yourself? Take lots of photos so you can put it back together again!

Very annoying especially as Kalkhoff are meant to be quality. Perhaps worth contacting the company directly?

I've had the same experience. Bought a £2.5k machine from 50cyles. Done only 1000 miles. They can't fix it but can sell another...
Bought another, but not from them!
Hobbies can be expensive and chasing new technology even more so.
