Did Mercdes /Hymer not make the original Tag Axle Version?
They produce them now, have done for a few years. I am sure they made an earlier version !?I think they are all rear wheel drive so not likely
Although it depends on the terminology , we have four wheels on a single rear axle , is that tag or tandem![]()

S750 is on a Merc chassis, twin rear wheels then a single wheel axle behind, made in the 1980s. I don't think they are called tag axles though.Did Mercdes /Hymer not make the original Tag Axle Version?

Love my Merc based top of the range Hymer. Yes it's only 8 years old and a long time to go before its a classic but a great van. I've had loads of vans and sometimes, one "gets you" and this one certainly has. Few things to do to it now and then but boy it's a beauty.
But as we are talking Classics,
saw this one in Germany a few weeks ago. Pretty sure it wasn't going Surfing, but boy this was a fully restored classic of the highest order. View attachment 729380
