That's what I said, all designed so you don't know what it's doing until it goes faulty. I do think that unless you see the main dealer you are going to have to put up with the lights from hell and possible limp mode operation.
It's all designed to force you to use the main dealers.

Earlier this year I was contacted by my main dealer about the upcoming service and wanted to book my in. Obviously I asked for the price, he hesitated and would ring me back. He rang back and quoted me £730. All it needed was oil and filter that cost me around £73 plus half an hour of my time. Bloody expensive hourly rate or a ripp off.

That would have been the 4 year/56,000 mile service. He was quoting you for all of the Fiat recommended work for that service which is, from memory, much more than just an oil and filter change - the manual will show you what is required. It probably also included the MOT.

Having said that I have never paid anything like that amount for the two services I had on my previous Fiat based motorhome, both done by a Fiat Pro dealer. From memory I think they were in £200 to £300 range including MOT. But, as with anything, it pays to shop around.

That price would have been acceptable, even to me a Scottish Yorkshire man

Completely confused - what's an FLT? I have no indication of any burn cycle. Also my van is a 2012 and does not have an odometer button.
How do you reset your trip metre without a button?

Just looked back at records and I only had one service not two because the mileage was low enough not to need one each year. The one I had was when it was 6 years old and it cost £292 which included the £60 or so for the MOT. I then had to pay and additional £55 because they said the air conditioning belt needed replacing.

Serviced every year at MoT time in preparation for winter trip, hab check and anything else that needs doing at the same time. Dave Newell is very reasonable (and it gives me a chance to do my Christmas shopping in Telford while he's doing it)! Mind you we tend to do a decent mileage, average around 10k - we bought it to USE it.

I suspect it is a euro 4 engine which came in around 2012. However £730 for a 4 year service does not add up IMO. (Sadly there have been quite a few Fiat dealers who have ripped off motorhome owners in the UK and some of this is documented on this forum ( I was one such person)).
However, I use a Fiat main dealer for all my services. The last one I had (also 4 yearly) was very expensive (around £440) this included all filters (I have air con too) and a change of brake fluid. When I took this up with the service manager he said to me when you think about it, it's not too bad as you only need a service every two years so this works out at about £220 a year and you have the knowledge that the service has been completed by Fiat trained service technician's but more importantly you become one of our customers and if you suffer from a catastrophic failure that would cost a significant amount of money to fix, we will almost certainly reduce that cost simply because you are one of our customers.
My next service will be the biggest one I have I think, as it will include the water pump and Cam belt and I am expecting the bill to be close to £600 and have already been informed it will be reduced as much as possible.
I'm still convinced your problem is related to resetting the service interval on your dash board. Your vehicle is not a Fork Lift Truck and logic dictates that the problem has occurred as a result of not resetting the service interval when carrying out a self service.
For piece of mind, you could contact a main dealer and ask for a price, for a diagnostics check (they connect a computer to your vehicle and read any fault messages that have been displayed) and to reset the service interval.
What I would do in your position is find someone who can reset your service indicator (does not have to be a Fiat dealer and will be a whole lot cheaper) and then wait and see if the fault occurs again, which I'm convinced it will not. Then if it does, bite the bullet and get it in to a Fiat main dealer.

If you lived closer to here ,and it really does need a computer I would be very surprised if I couldnt get you someone who would put off for about a tenner.
But then again you wouldn't have any gauantee if something else cropped up because of it.

It does surprise me sometimes the extent to which people who have spent a lot of money on a motorhome want to save on actually keeping it on the road. I suspect that those savings will be less than the reduction in eventual sale price of vehicle because it does not have a full service history. Of course that does apply more to newer models.

Wouldn't apply if you had already bought one at right price that hadn't got any service history.

I've read on another forum that the service light on the Euro 4-5 Fiat , Peugeot will reset itself after 1000 kilometres.

Tell you in about ten years when I might be thinking of selling it(y):)
You still won't know for sure will you? All you will know is what you sold it for, not what you would have sold it for if the circumstances were different. And by that time I suspect the differences will be small, as I made clear in my post.

It does have a full service history. The oil and filters are changed annually at about 9000 miles - not 27000 miles. It gets all the repairs it needs regardless of costs. The difference is I am more than willing and able to carry them out myself.

I have just ordered oil/oil filter /air filter/pollen filter for my 2007 ducato 2.3 130bhp. Total cost from europarts £58.00 (30% off this weekend) I do this service annually and am horrified to hear that some people are only getting a service at 27000 miles........with the motorhome years old at that point! Hope I dont buy one second hand at anytime.

I dont know why people hold main dealer service's in such high esteem, being involved in motorsport for most of my life I'v heard loads of stuff from mechanics (who I do work for) who work for unscrupulous main dealers where service work is skipped because they can get away with it.

I will know that it's been looked after properly , doing it myself rather than what it says on a piece of paper, that by many posts on here show dealers can say anything.

To go back to the OP point..... this happened to me. The oil warning light was flashing which is the oil life warning. i contacted my garage and they said they had probably forgotten to reset it at the the service (only about 10 weks previously). They checked it over and reset the light (free of course). 2010 Ducato. It rests itself after a certain number of miles, but I felt more reassured having it checked as I am not able to do it myself unlike the op who feels and sounds competent to do this.

So now its Monday morning and I'm determined to get the service counter reset.
First garage I found said No chance - No machine, he sent me to a Burstner M/H dealership. Nope we send the servicing to diesel place 30 miles away. As we were now near by a Lidl (they do the best bagguets) we went there. Right next door was a car service specialists. I thought if they service cars they must know how to reset service counters. Sure enough they did although he did have to try two computers. Service now reset to 27,000 miles, I'll not have to worry about it again for three years.

I bought a Harley Davidson Road King Classic in 2000, its first service cost me £360 which I thought was extortion, so from then on for 10years I serviced it myself for a cost of £80 for materials.
I also filled the service book in myself with dates and type of service which I did 2-3 times a year not yearly as HD required.
I had letters from HD every year saying the same that the value of my bike was reducing as I was not taking it to HD for its annual service.
Anyway in 2010 I went to Triumph dealership to PX my Harley for a new Triumph Rocket 3. I asked for PX deal and was totally stunned when the manager said they would do a straight swap for my 10 year old HD for a brand new £13,000 Triumph Rocket 3.
Triumph were happy with my service book with one HD service and upteen of my services in the service book.

Just had, in July, 2nd annual vehicle service done at North East Truck and Van (Fiat Professional/Fiat Camper)
Hull/Grimsby area. £130. Hab service at local NCC Approved Workshop, FM Caravans Hull £140.
Don't go anywhere near main dealers who wanted £630 for the combined service.
I'd rather pay the £130 than do it myself in view of the oil and filter cost's, plus any recalls/updates get done and the service reminder reset.

Also I forgot to mention that after the chap had reset the service counter that had took him maybe 15 minutes, when I asked him how much he shouted his boss and he said free!! What! Any way I gave the lad a fiver. Bargain- I like Germans. I don't think it would have been that cheap at the Fiat dealers. Whatyuthink?
