Are 4 season tyres as good in summer, as a summer tyre?
How good are summer tyres in winter?
Is there any point in getting 4 season tyres?

I think it depends on the conditions you want to be able to drive in. 4 season tyres are far better all year round than summer tyres also better on grass.
I fitted winter tyres they have been fine in the summer.

I have the Michelin all season, they are amazing!

Mate runs winters on his van all year round, wouldn’t now go back.

Winter tyres for me. My understanding is that they won’t last as long, due to being winter tyres, but that isn’t really an issue on a Moho.

I fitted mud and snow tyres to my van, not because they're better in any particular season. Its just I've just a gut full of getting stuck in wet, grassy, muddy, farmers/festival fields.

Thanks, I'm swinging towards 4 seasons.

I'm doing a comparison of 225/R15 tyres, as an upgrade from 215. Here is where I am.

Firestone Vanhawk 2 winter tyres for me all year, we’ll see how they’ll cope with a summer run down to Croatia. But after a run to Bavaria in Dec and a few weekends at the coast they seem to be wearing well

Not even took the excess moulding rubber off👍

I went for Continental winter tyres 225/70/15 as the 4 seasons didn't have a high enough load rating. My reasoning, as Lenny etc have said, is that they won't wear out before I would consider changing them as I don't do 100k a year. The previous tyres were Continentals and still had loads of tread on at I think 9 years. They aren't noisy and seem to have okay grip in mud

Spot on, I’d rather run the tread off soft winter tyres than change them with loads of tread left on summer tyres after 5-6 years. At least I’ll have used all the tread I’ve paid for👍

Consider the weather in the UK and how much time you spend on the continent in Summer.

We get more winter conditions in the UK than we do summer, so Winters are more suitable. If you do not use your van for Winter trips, all-season will suffice.

Today, we are on day 4 of rain in Spain too !

I have run most vans on winters for 50 years.

All our motorhomes have always been run on Winters, as is my van and cars.

Did you get that the wrong way round? The four seasons are one of two tyres that will take the loading on my motorhome, both made by Continental. That’s in a 225/17/15 fitment, my rear axle is 2420kgs

I am interested in more details if you have found another tyre 👍

Everywhere I'm looking the Pirelli are 68db, one of the reasons I bought them

At National tyres they’re over £100 a corner more than my Firestones, that’s one of the reasons I DID’NT buy them, the other is I’ve got Pirelli’s on the car and they are dreadful, no grip or feeling whatsoever.
But hey every one has different experiences and expectations, or everyone would be buying the same tyres, which we’re clearly not👍

I paid just below 100 each, fitted and balanced, a couple of years ago. All weathers and definately no problems with grip over about 15k miles.

Prob no good in m&s looking at the tread pattern...

They are the only 3peak tyre I've had so nothing to compare to. But I hav'nt found them wanting and would certainly buy again

Fine if you want to keep the greens happy but the noise figure is not relevant to the noise inside the cab.
The tyre noise rating is the pass by noise the tyre makes measured from the side as the vehicle passes generating back noise waves the fewer number of waves the quieter the tyre is rated.

Crikey, I'm getting killed here.....
I only suggested that the table from DDJC might have had an error...

Highly likely. I am a tyre dimwit.

Another question to which you tyrey folk will know.

When you get a tyre that is described as 225/R15 112 S, I know what each bit means.

BUT what does it mean when it says 225/R15 112/114 S? Why two load numbers? Is it a 114 tyre or a 112 tyre?

DDJC have a look at maxxis vansmart tyres they came out 4th on a promobile tyre test and are all season tyres.

Looks inexpensive, good wet weather but its higher on rolling resistance than all the others I'm looking at.

Two numbers depending on two wheel axel, or four wheel axle. So tyres mounted individually or in pair.
