I've bought an adapter for my laptop to step up 12v to 19v to use it in the MoHo but when I plugged in it didn't appear to work. So I plugged lappy back into mains adapter and ......... nothing !
Could I have blown a fuse on the lappy ? Does anyone know where it would be ?
It's a 7 year old hp.
TIA

Edit : what a numpty, wall socket was switched OFF !
I`ll look into why 12v adapter didn`t work later

Just so you know for the future, laptops don't have internal fuses, they're low voltage so any fusing will be at the power block.

Following on from my traumatic moment yesterday when I thought I'd blown up my lappy, I checked the outputs from the adapters. The mains adapter outputs 19v 3.5 amp while the 12v adapter outputs 19v 4.7 amp.
Is this difference likely to be a problem for the laptop ?

Have you checked the polarity of the 12v adapter to make sure it is the same as the mains one?

Some laptops have a 3 wire jack. A skinny centre pin, an inner sleeve and an outer sleeve. The skinny pin can be/is a signal wire. Without correct signal laptop will not charge.
I,m really not 100% sure of this, hopefully someone can put me right..... or maybe confirm?

No - current is drawn as needed. The 12v adapter just has a higher safety margin.

I had a 12v adapter for a TV which stepped up the voltage. For some reason the TV would only work if I switched the adapter on first with it disconnected from the TV, let it (for want of a better expression) warm up, then plugged it into the TV. If all were connected up when I plugged the 12v in, the TV wouldn't start. Just a thought anyway.

As an afterthought, our leisure battery was 8 years old, and running the TV always took it below 12v. Has your leisure battery got all the necessary oomph to step up the voltage?

Yes, you are correct. My Dell laptop won't work without a Dell charger.
