Not strictly motorhome, but does any kind person have a obd scanner with vcds for VW/Audi. I have an airbag warning light which I need to get reset, nothing wrong with system, just the result of removing the battery on my Skoda Karoq? Live in Portsmouth

Did you get this sorted? If not - can anyone help?

I've successfully used an app called "vagerase" with a elm327 obd dongle, might be worth getting them for future use

I'm not exactly around the corner (Northampton)
I couldn't see "vagerase" so either not android or not available anymore.
Vagcom isnt cheap was £265 for a 3 vin licience (ps used all mine up)(£50 for multiecuscan a bargin in comparisson)
You use a licence up for the advanced functions/ features. You can read codes and i think delete codes (dont actual know, possibly read it somewhere) without using a vin, but not done it. I haven't used anything other than vagcom for vag cars.so dont know if anything else will do it. Ive not posted until now as its too far especialy when not certain i can do it

Sorry, I'm even further north but do have the full unlimited version of VCDS, I'm no expert with it but can reset your airbag warning, it's a very common job! I doubt it has ever saved me the cost but it's been useful for me, relatives and friends. I'm in Shropshire, if any Funsters need help on VAG vehicles I'm always willing to try, PM me.

Thanks for the input guys, pity there is so much distance between us. I will continue to seek out someone close who has the software. I know a few people who have various scanners/readers but the consensus is that they will not reset the airbag, needs to be the dedicated VW/Audi kit.

I had my tyre pressure and stability warning light, along with my stop start no longer working after I had two tyres changed !!! Eventually I had to have the software reinstalled (also a Skoda (yeti)), simply removing/resetting the fault code didn't work.
Mechanically there was nothing wrong, it was a glitch caused by a gremlin apparently ...

My problem is a well documented one. Many people have disconnected the battery for various reasons, or unplugged an electrical connector, only to find all warning lights are on when switching on the ignition. Although alarming, its normal, once the engine is started and the car driven a very short distance, all light go out (nearly). The airbag warning light remains lit. Apparently, because this is part of the "safety restraint system" , it is designed not to be easily reset by the average home mechanic with his OBD scanner, in case there is actually a fault which needs rectification. Hence the need to reset using the appropriate software, simple 5 min job.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of temp battery device that allows battery changing to be done whilst still maintaining power to the vehicle to stop that happening - if there isn't, perhaps there should be. ...? ( 🤔 Stands back and waits for a deluge of responses ....)

Yeah, it does seem quite mad, Ive read many posts on VW/Audi about it. One mentioned when vacuuming under the front seat, he accidently disturbed a connector, only to find when re-connected, the warning lights were all on. Like mine, he drove the vehicle a short distance to clear the lights, only to find the airbag remained, PITA!

Look on eBay - plenty of people prepared to hire out the software and hardware needed.

On VAG vehicles the airbag warning can only be re-set with diagnostic equipment as far as I am aware. I've done it lots of times for friends and acquaintances. It only takes a few minutes to do but no doubt dealers charge a minimum rate.

I reset an airbag for a colleague's VW T5.1 recently when he'd changed the head unit and powered it up before realising that he hadn't plugged the passenger airbag loom back in!

I used a ELM327 Bluetooth dongle, here's one on amazon prime
Amazon product ASIN B0834M6YS4
And VAGerase, which is now called DTC Fault Memory erase for VAG

This combo cleared the airbag code no problem, and for the cost of the dongle, £7.99, it's well worth a try 👌

Maybe I'm being a bit dim but why can't the VAG garage reset it?

For many years I've connected a temporary 12v power supply before changing a battery. All you need is a slave battery and a couple of leads with croc clips.

The VAG garage will be very happy to read and reset the airbag warning light, if you are happy to pay their stupid prices for hooking up to the diagnostics to do so. Its also fine to connect a temporary 12v power supply when removing the battery to charge it. However, firstly you need to be aware of the problems you may experience if not doing so, also you need to have another 12v temporary supply, also if carrying out work on a vehicle which demands the 12v supply is turned off, its not an option.

If you think VAG are a pain try BMW.

Over Christmas I did all the pads and discs on a series one.

You have to tell it you’ve changed everything 🙄

I've had that on my wife's BMW, had terrible headlights so replaced with Xenon conversion kit. Terrific bright lights, but the bulb failure warning light permanently on dash. Car electrics these days ARRRRRRRRR !!!

Lagotto I tried
DTC Fault Memory erase for VAG
with the Vgate icar pro 4 OBD2 device i use with Multiecuscan Alfaobd and torq with2 Android devices. Doesnt want to play. It states in update history that it has solved problems with Vgate (not quite).Sent my experiance to developer, time to see what happens.
FOR THIS problem you could just buy the cheap one reccomended, to use MES you need one of the recommended devices (at about £20 the Vgate is the cheapest).(or a lot of agro).

Can I piggy back on this tread as well? I’ve got engine emissions light on again. VW crafter, I’m after a obd that can perform a regeneration. Any ideas please?

Thank you rod_vw
I don’t have Facebook. I’m after buying one for myself. I had a look on T6 forum and lots uses vcds. However I had a look on eBay and they seem to be 300-450 quid. I came across this Icarsoft, any ideas

It was mentioned with my kia that there cold be problems when changing battery so I always used to do it using jump leads connected to another battery. As you said though no good if needing power completely off.

Some engines in the VAG group can’t be forced into regen I’m informed.

Have you tried to hit correct conditions when driving?

I’m aware of that. The crafter mk2 can run regen with the right obd tool. Also it can tell if needs one, showing how much soot build up has. It’s down to the tool to be able to interrogate the info. I narrowed my search on autel and icarsoft. The autel can code keys and injectors. The Icarsoft can do injectors but no key.

I can't help with knowledge of the iCarsoft VAWS as I have been a VCDS user for years.
I must admit that I was an anti Facebook person for years but have realised that if you sort the 'wheat from the chaff' there are some very useful and interesting groups on there. However you may find someone on the T6 Forum who will help you out this time with VCDS and thus give you the chance to view its capabilities. A read up on the Ross Tech website will probably convince you that it is worthwhile if you have more than one or two VAG vehicles in your circle of friends.

I have a MAN TGE on order and will no doubt have use for VCDS on that for various tweaks and general maintenance when it's arrived and converted.

PS I'm no more than a grateful user of the product, in no way associated with the manufacturers or retailers.

Met a guy today in Rickmansworth with a VCDS, worked well, and thank you for your suggestions. That forum looks good. That’s where I got the info. 👍

Pleased to be of some help.

I'm trying to escape from the T5/T6 world and go Crafter/MAN TGE, I jut hope that there will be as much support for that model.
