I am interested in this offer (£195 per season) but not sure if it is possible to record from NowTV on a series link. I can't work out how I can do this. I have a Humax Freeview recorder, which of course works out fine for Freeview, but can't see how I can record from a USB dongle. Any ideas?

How much!!!!

Yes you can record in real time using an HDMI capture device. I do it on Prime so I can take a few series with us when traveling.

I use one of these .
The best free software I found that works is XSplit Broadcaster.

Took me ages playing about but finally got it sussed.

Might work out cheaper if you get a day or even a weeks pass just for the ones you can watch live at a sensible time.I have a monthly pass at the moment but I pick and choose a bit.

Yes, many ways to capture streaming video in real time - but that's not what the OP wants...
He wants to Series Link future scheduled broadcasts via an epg on his Humax...
I don't that's possible - you have to do it manually, at the time of broadcast.

I heard a Sky advert on LBC the other day that me squirm and say...How Much!!!!
F1 channel on Sky is £10PCM, 18 month minimum contract term!, £20 set up fee!
Crikey thats £200 to watch a forgone conclusion, on top of the price of any existing Sky TV package you have.

I will just watch the highlights as usual, still peed off that we lost viewing it on The BBC, but I guess all sports will go the way the money trail leads them.
There is always the local pub showing it, I imagine, but haven't been down to find out.

Yer, I didn't read it right.
Still possible using software timers if you are computer savvy.

This doesn’t help with recording, but they are showing first few races on Sky One as well. You can get a month entertainment pass for £7.99 on NowTV (also get 2nd month free for new subscribers) rather than the £8.99 day or £10.99 per week for SkyF1.

Not relating to Dorwyns question, as I wouldnt have a clue, but I read that sky now have control over what is shown on british tv. This year they are continuing with channel 4, showing highlights but they can only show a certain %. Next year who knows, the British grand prix will remain as being shown live.

Watched a lot of them live on RTL last year while in Europe, yes it’s in German but at least the race is there..

Thanks, I noticed that for the Aus GP, is it just for the first few races or the whole season?

Could be a cost effective option.

Pete

If you have a satellite system, watch it free on RTA on Astra1 will the volume muted, and then listen to the BBC5 Live commentary on the radio simultaneously

You could record that straight to the Humax box, by telling the Humax box to be a FTA (Free To Air) receiver rather than a Freesat receiver in Settings to allow you to decode RTA, FTA

I tried that last year when we were way down south somewhere.
Problem was the radio commentary was several seconds behind the action so it was really frustrating.
Think I would prefer to just listen in German or have the volume turned down.
Not a problem this year though. I bit the bullet and took out a Sky subscription so can watch on-line with Sky Go when away. The Memsahib can also watch her Test Match cricket too.
Many brownie points coming my way. :D:D:D

Richard.

Not sure. Read somewhere it was going to be the first 3 races. I assume the idea is to get existing Sky customers interested then they will pay for the full SkyF1 coverage. Worth trying it for the next race anyway as it’s still cheaper than buying one days Skysport pass.

Ah you see, should have asked me! (y) Live pause the Humax box for a couple of seconds and let it sync that way! ;)

Ah, crafty!
Problem is Eddie, I don’t have a Humax box in the van.
In a Carthago everything is fitted in so tightly there is no room for things like Sky boxes or recorders without major modifications.
It’s taken me nearly 4 years to find out how to get at the back of the TV to plug in an alternative HDMI cable. :(

What was it that caused the messing around, software or hardware?

Mainly software, not helped by plugging into a usb2 port I thought all the ports on my pc were usb 3. Once I got that sorted it was a case of trying g loads of diffent software and once I got it half working spent hours playing with setting finally got it sussed and it works perfectly.

So I went back to Sky TV who came up with a very good price ... so I can record as well!

I have followed F1 for 50 years
As a point of interest and expressing no opinion on the sport, current viewing figures for Live Ch4 F1 broadcasts hover around 2.5 million
Sky F1 figures are around 750 to 800,000.

This illustrates very little other than it has become quite a small event as far as TV audience is concerned compared to Murray’s era
