Some Funsters will be aware that I have just had 2 weeks in hospital. As this started immediately on return from a short trip away in the van, I was unable to carry out the usual drain down etc. In all the drama of being in hospital, I missed the frosty overnights and didn't warn the missus.
Yesterday I inspected the van and found that the dump had not triggered or didn't look as though it had but when I ran the taps there was spluttering and hissing etc. Fresh water still showed 50% but it became clear that the boiler reservoir was empty. Cold taps normal. Moreover, when the taps were opened on hot only, water ran out copiously from underneath in the vicinity of the dump exit.
As I have said, the dump valve appeared to be in the 'closed' position but was physically open.
I operated the dump valve mechanism, open/close several times and tried running the hot taps again.
Eventually, all returned to normal, by which time the fresh water tank was showing 25%.
So, all fixed? Still OK this morning but what happened?
Water dumping without valve visibly triggering.
Queer!

What does you valve switch look like? I always forget which way is open/closed for mine. I now remember the peg to hold it open trick and that reminds me if the switch is pulled up it is closed and ready for use.

Had exactly the same on mine 2 weeks ago......... Though the valve tap was in the closed position, the blue button had triggered open - and yes only drained when the hot tap was opened to let air in.

I must say I dont like the blue dump valve ss much as the older type with a pull up knob. It is far frlm clear which way is open or closed and in fact it only seems to be the blue button that does anything. The trick with a peg to hold it closed doesnt work on the blue one either

Ooh liking this thread, wondering if that started our problem although we did drain down. Certainly leak only started after i had used heated hot water. will try the opening and shutting valve and pressing the blue button, however we are getting leaking from the Accumulator? Not the pump. Fortunately have the book for our laika which shows the position of the blue switch when closed.

did tell you about the blue valve

When it triggers the blue small button pops out. When you open the valve manually you turn the top. I assume the button was out. It only comes out about 10mm on mine. So not easy to spot.

I much prefer the old yellow handled manual dump valve, The blue ones are a real PITA, as they sometimes won't reseal after being triggered. Some water heaters have a one time release valve to save the heater tank. When they release, you have to replace them, but cheaper than replacing the heater tank.

It"s the one that goes across or in line and I do know which way round is which,😁
Re. the button, I am completely familiar with this style of dump valve, on current and previous van . I felt the button when I turned it to off and it had definitely been retracted. So valve closed, on the face of it but not in actual fact. Interesting that TOT had a similar thing happen. Always something new to keep you on your toes😁
