I'm a newbie
I booked a crossing with DFDS Dover to Dunkirk before the coronavirus outbreak. The GOV advice as far as I know is still ESSENTIAL travel only and I can't see that changing before my sailing date 23rd June. So before I tackle DFDS or before I seek help from CAB I thought I'd see what advise you guys have as I'm sure there is quite a few in the same boat, -- or maybe a different one.

I don’t know whether DFDS stance is still the same, but we had a crossing booked for Zeebrugge-Hull for 8 June. I cancelled in early April, and took the freely available option of a credit note for up to 12 months, which suited us. Pretty straightforward.

If they are still recommending isolation on the return to the UK and you don't want to go I would ring now just to see what they say. If you leave it I suspect it will get less likely that you will be offered a refund.

I would be talking to DFDS wouldn’t cross my mind to think I would need to involve CAB 🤔

confident they will be happy to move your booking for no or at worst a small admin fee 👍

I thought that too. I don't know why the op said refund though. I think moving it a reasonable amount would be acceptable I think cab might not be interested.

No need for refund , go for it ,see this thread

Yes, but...
The government advice against non-essential travel abroad is still in place, likely to mean travel insurance is void. You don’t need it, obviously, and it’s fine for people to make an informed decision to travel without. I personally wouldn’t.
If the OP decides to “go for it”, surely that needs to be their considered decision, not a challenge!

Also if you are going to comply with the French quarantine recommendation what sort of holiday will you have and is even possible to comply unless you have someone to shop for you? I wouldn't criticise anyone for their own decision but I think if the roles were reversed I wouldn't feel very well towards people coming here from a higher incidence country and ignoring our quarantine rules so for me it would be out at the moment.

After Last nights broadcast from our President EM

UK FO Advice was change last night:
Border controls

From 15 June 2020, travellers arriving in France from the UK and wider European Area (EU, Andorra, Holy See, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino and Switzerland) are no longer required to demonstrate their travel is essential or hold an international travel certificate.

Arrivals from outside the UK and wider European Area will still need to complete an international travel certificate, which certifies that your journey is essential and confirms that you have not been suffering from a set of listed symptoms associated with Covid-19. This travel certificate is available on the French Ministry of the Interior’s website. You should also produce any supporting paperwork to substantiate the essential nature of your travel.

If you are entering or transiting through France, depending on your circumstances, you also need to have a travel certificate if travelling in Île-de-France (Greater Paris) on public transport at peak hours (from 06:30 to 09:30 and from 16:00 to 19:00).

Arrivals from the UK, from Spain (air arrivals only, until 21 June) and from outside the European Area are asked to self-isolate for 14 days on arrival in mainland France. This does not apply to arrivals from the wider European Area. Full details and a list of exemptions to self-quarantine in France are set out in a <Broken link removed> (in French) and its translation (in English).

Travellers showing signs of a Covid-19 infection upon arrival in mainland France will have to carry out a mandatory 14 day quarantine at home or in a dedicated location indicated by the French authorities if home quarantine is not feasible.

All travellers to French overseas territories will also have to carry out a mandatory 14 day quarantine.

Border checks may also be in place at points on France’s land borders with Italy, Spain, Belgium and Germany.

I always book the 'flexible ' & pay the extra 20 quid as you can cel up to 24hrs before with full refund & also you can get on any boat 72hrs either side of the booked crossing.

It was my intensions to reach Austria via France Belgium Germany. These boarders could become a minefield if not now possibly at a minutes notice especially if the virus should spike. The event I was to support in Austria has been cancelled hence my interest in a refund.
