We are off on our trip to Spain and Gibraltar as arranged for a long time to finish off the frequent traveller tickets.. We are now a t Le Mans and will not be able to carry on as the Mother in Law has just died and we will have to be back for the funeral, which is in t he future sometime, next week the week after?
We do not need to be back straight off as there are loads of arrangements to be made that are held over from the holiday periods. We need to be in the vicinity to get back after a bit of notice.
Why am I haunted whenever we do anything like this, last year was cut short as wifey got flu in Spain and wanted to go home , it is a damn long way for a day trip .
All I wanted was bit of winter sun. all we have here is a gloom, and fog, I think that must follow me.

Sympathy!
Get back home and get the funeral over and done with then start again.
March & April can be really good in Spain & Portugal when the flowers start to open, the trees are in blossom and it starts to warm up nicely.

Like you last year, we got right down near to Gib. when we both contracted flu. Slowly made our way a bit further north to spend Christmas at Totana when the Memsahib decided she just wanted to go home. Spent Christmas on the aire at Gruissan and Boxing Day on the A75. We said never again and this year we stayed at home. Come the end of February we plan to head south again and enjoy spring in Portugal.

Richard.

Sorry to hear about your mother in law.
If neither of you need to be back in the UK imminently ( if someone else is arranging funeral, paperwork etc) you could continue to Spain and get a cheap flight back. Book it as soon as you know the funeral date ( and that will probably be 3 weeks away) & there should be a chance of a cheap flight. Stay a night or rep then fly back.

Wrong thread methinks, hopefully.

Oh dear Graham, you don't have much luck do you? At least you don't have far to travel on this side of the channel, (presuming your MIL lived near?) You need to get back over the other side as soon as the funeral is over. Don't give up!
:hugs:

On a weeks fishing holiday in Ireland a few years ago I got a call from work telling me to get back quickly for an important meeting. They couldn’t tell me what it involved. Fearing the worst I left my companions with our transport in Cork and booked another ferry crossing as a foot passenger, caught several trains and buses eventually getting to the meeting. No pay rise this year lads, profits down. That was it. Nothing major, I paid a fortune for tickets and lost most of my holiday to be told that. No one gave two hoots when I moaned.

I drove home non stop my wife had to be with her brothers and sisters and children we was also away when her father died several years ago. So she gets a bit anxious every time we go away now this years trip I had to coax her into the van or we would never have left for a day or 2 she wasnt well with anxiety but trip turned out good. Good luck with whatever you decide to do there is always someone here with top advice or to listen.

Sorry to hear your news.

You have our sympathies.

Two years ago we were in France when my Mum was admitted to hospital in Cumbria. We set off for the U.K. but, thanks to a traffic jam on the M6, we arrived 30 minutes too late.

Return to U.K., attend the funeral, take a few days then set off on your holiday again. You can’t achieve anything by abandoning your trip altogether.

You need the break even more now.

Best wishes.

Sorry for your loss. Your wife is probably desperate to get home, needing to be with her family members to help with the grief of losing her Mum. Spain can wait. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and look at the bigger picture. A bit of sunshine isn’t going to help your wife with her sorrow!

Certainly have, just like last year,..................... but those didn't do much good.
I put the blame on that bus ride into Salamanca with the great unwashed. Always knew I wasn't suited to public transport. :xrofl::xrofl:

We are staying for the new year, as we aren’t needed for anything there. Just need to be within return range, as the tickets all expire on the 21st we had to be back anyway. The official business will take a fair time as they list it as unexpected death and a pm done.
As we live in Dover there is no way back except driving back.

So sorry to hear your news ... your wife must be feeling really horrible .. With any death of a loved one, once the shock wears off most of us will feel regret of one kind or another.
Her mum is at peace now, but the loved ones left behind begin their grief process. Please give your wife our thoughts of strength.

Very sorry to hear of your loss Graham, from your earlier posts l feel that your MH adventures has not been blessed with good fortune to date. Perhaps 2019 will bring you better luck. I too have an aged MIL who Regularly cuts short our travels . Not living too far from you we had to attend Barham Crem just before Christmas for a late friend who almost made his 102nd birthday. It was 8.40 am!!
Hope things work out for you, I ll keep an eye out for you as we are heading down to Javea on Wednesday.

Sorry to hear of your sad circumstances, similar in some ways to ours a year ago when my Mum died.

Our house is about 200 km south of where you are, and you would be most welcome to make use of it (we’re in Portugal) if it helps in any way, even if it’s just somewhere to leave your MH.
