Hi All, leaving via tunnel Tuesday night.
Any help on sites welcome
Jim n Lynne

Last minute planning, love your laid back attitude. :)

We are off to Northern Spain in a couple of weeks and have been planning since before Christmas. Sad, I know but I enjoy it!

I find the ACSI book plus the newly discovered campercontact gives me enough choice. The latter has lots of aires, of which there are more in Spain than I thought.

We hope to do some exploring in Galicia, reaching it from Santander after stopping at the "zoo" aire outside Santander the first night then a bash along the coast, probably stopping at a site a couple of miles east of San Vincent, can't remember it's name off the top of my head but you can find it on Google maps. Then we will stop at the aire at Puerto de Vega, which we found by chance last year but it is listed in campercontact.

After that it will probably be aires all the way round the Galician coast (avoiding the built up bits where possible) and then inland along the Sil Valley.

The original plan was to go into Northern Portugal afterwards, the Mino has much to see and also take the train along the Douro Valley, but with so much to see in Galicia we will probably leave this for another time. We will just head south instead, via the Sierra de Gredos and Granada.

You will be a couple of weeks ahead of us, look forward to reading your recommendations on here! A lot of sites won't be open this early, but Camping Perlora should be. It has pitches above the sea and shops within walking distance, nice site too. http://www.campingperlora.com

Hi Jim and Lynne,
We are leaving on Wednesday and heading in the same direction. Not done this route before but we have created a spreadsheet sheet with a list of recommended sites mainly gleaned from trawling this forum. However, it's not set in concrete (haven't booked anything) and we had a little drinkie last night with our next door neighbour who is Portuguese and he recommended lots of places to visit which were not on our list. The only place we know we definitely want to stay at is at Pedros (Motorhome Friends in Albufeira). Haven't booked this yet as it depends how the journey goes but we should be there late April. Hope to bump into you and other Funsters on our travels. Safe journey.

We loved Castrojeriz camping (ACSI), west of Burgos - lovely site, lovely people, lovely village.

Monsaraz in Portugal, close to Spanish border. Good Aire with a view that will take your breath away. No water or waste disposal so arrive full and empty. Beautiful little walled village to walk around with nice restaurants. And arrive early because it is full by 5

Elvas also in Portugal. A walled city with all walls intact. A UNESCO world heritage site. Great walks, churches and views. Overnight in the unofficial aire that is the huge car park by the aqueduct, always plenty of other motorhomes there. The local Intermarche has a full motorhome service point for free.

Shame you don't want the Algarve, because you will miss Pedro's place. Only been here two nights and already loving it.

Hi again,
Our Portuguese friend is not a motorhomer so he can only recommend places of interest without taking into account campsites/aires/access. Here is his list of places to visit:
La Mego - for Portuguese champagne
Peneda de Geres - National Park
Viana do Castelo
Douro Valley
Vila Real
Serra da Estrela
Porto
Matosinhos - seaside
Ofir - seaside and pine forests
Coimbra - says it's like Cambridge
Aveiro - canals and salt flats
Nazare - beach, cliffs and town
Lisbon (Alfama) - the old town - can get a train from Cascais
Lagos
Portimau - recommended restaurant Forte e Eio in the old fish market
Tavira - says it's like the old Algarve

Looks like we'll be making several trips to Portugal in the future!

Don't know - will contact him around 23rd April - if he can't take us will stay nearby...

Don't miss the basque region its stunning start at the aire in donostia San sebastion and get the bus in or walk orio is worth a visit zarutz just tootle down there's a lot to discover

How far in advance of arriving do you plan to book? Is he likely to be very busy towards the end of April?
We just phoned up in the morning and arrived early afternoon. Lot of people left today so lots of space at the moment. I emailed them before I left and they said that there was no need to book in April.

Now most of the sites and Aires are emptying out with all the Northern European winter stayers leaving for home

Mind you at the moment it is throwing it down at Pedro's. Went for a walk and got caught out in it. Soaking wet and cold by the time we got back, so nice warm shower and change of clothes needed.

Stayed here because of your recommendation ..................... thank you - it is just our sort of site - small and friendly, has a bar and near a lovely village. We loved it. (y)

If we have time on our return from Portugal we will go again! Glad you enjoyed it!

Was at the Quay at portimao , eur 2.50 a night. Good location.
Great cafe at pingos supermarket.
Am now at nazare, parked in the town. Great location near market. Came for a couple of nights and been here a week.
Short walk to beach and loads of little roads and cafés to explore.
