Hi folks, my wife and I are planning a couple of weeks touring North Wales in late June, early July. Having never spent much time in that part of the UK previously, we were hoping to get some tips on the best places to visit and stopover. We enjoy walking in the countryside and visiting interesting towns and villages and are happy to avoid big, full facility, campsites in favour of CLs. Any tips would be gratefully received.

As I live locally I can't offer any advice on campsites. I have never needed to stay in any. But please look at Llandudno - The great Orme. The town's association with Alice in Wonderland. Conway. A walled town complete with castle, marina and history from WWII (Mulberry harbour construction). Caernarfon—Castle and place where Charles' investiture took place. Then there is Anglesey. A racetrack if you like that sort of thing. Beaches, walks, pubs, history etc. Beaumaris yet another castle. Nice walks, boat rides around Puffin island.

Google knows a lot more about the area than I do.

Hope you have a brilliant time.

You forgot the walk up Ffordd Pen Llech to Harlich Castle!:whistle2:

Bracdy Campsite in Llandyrnog is a fantastic little CS it gives great access to the Clwydian hills for walking.

Bala, lots of choice of campsites and loads to do, walking, riding, white water rafting, Gorge walking (Canolfan Tryweryn are the go to watersports peeps).

Coed-y-Brenin, a few sites to choose from, awesome Mountain Bike centre.

Llangollen, some sites, great for walking, steam railway and white water rafting (not as good as Tryweryn)

Portmerion, Sites around Black rock sands, Portmerion is a days visit and is amazing look it up on t'interweb.

Llyn Peninsular, (Abersoch, Pwllheli, Nefyn, Aberdaron) loads of sites beautiful walks and beaches.

Betws-y-Coed, some sites nearby, Zip world, walking, arguably the outdoor capital of Wales.

Snowdon and surrounding area.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

Cheers
Red.

Brilliant folks, there's a lot there to be going on with. The maps will be out tonight and we'll try and tie in as many of your suggestions as possible. Many thanks 😊

Might try this ourselves before the August September France trip

Don’t forget if the weather is wet on mainland wales, then go onto Anglesey it will be dry 😁😁

Avoid Shell Island

nobody told me that until it was too late

I'll give you another bit of advice re: Shell Island...

Back when I were a wee nipper, the only toilets were near the Shop so it was common practice to dig a pit for the duration of your stay and fill it in when you leave... Top Tip: Don't pitch where the grass grows tall :ROFLMAO::LOL::X3:

Cheers

We liked this campsite at Penmaermawr , friendly great views, nice hike up the hill behind. Used it to visit Conwy and Bodnant Gardens (thoroughly recommend)

We stayed here for Portmadog for the train (walkable into town) and Portmerien, a holiday park but very nice touring area and so friendly, we also drove up to Black Rock Sands for the evening from here.

This is a great CL.

There aren’t many sites to choose from in the National Park and those that are there don’t seem to make an effort.

It’s difficult to explain, not bashing North Wales at all. We spend a lot of time there and love it, however finding a place to stay is sometimes a challenge.

Never found that to be my experience.
Nant Gwynant is a great campsite on the lake in Snowdonia and if you have a kayak there is easy access.

Llangollen,Bala,Betws y Coed, Portmeirion, Porthmadog,Barmouth, Lleyn Peninsula,Trearddur Bay, Holyhead, Bangor, Caernarvon,Conwy then on to Cymru's answer to Benidorm... Rhyl.

Well, that's the decision made on Shell Island!! 🤣

We were in North Wales at Easter, we stayed at Hafodty Farm, Colwyn, a lovely CL with views of the sea and Anglesey, would highly recommend it and only £13 per night. Great location for Conwy and Llandudno.

There's a few place names that we recognise here and that we thought we'd like to visit, so these two sites are great recommendations. Thank you 😊

We'll have a look at that one Googlebot, thanks. Hope we haven't left it too late to start booking!

Llandudno is one place lots of people talk about and will definitely be on our itinerary. This CL sounds perfect. Thank you Windboy.

This is Pant Gwyn Tudweiliog, (Search for sites) If you have solar just ask to stay on bottom field next to coastal path. Quiet beach just below you, turn left on coastal path Pub and store 1 mile, turn right and a 1-2 hours walk depending how quick you walk will take you to the famous TY Coch Inn (very busy in summer) We went for 3 nights spent 6 owners very friendly. They have a CL part with EHU etc but the field is massive and there were only 4 vans on it.

That looks stunning; one of those perfect finds. Thank you.

we are also looking to take the Boss Mother away for a couple of days to the same area (North Wales), so need a hotel/accomodation - pref next to or very near a campsite - even a pub with accom where we could park up and she could stay in the pub for a couple of nights would work, if anyone has any suggestions ?

Thanks

Betws y Coed. Riverside Campsite is lovely, we've stayed there lots of times. A few minutes walk takes you to the town where there are endless B&Bs, hotels and pubs. Plenty to do in the area and the best fish and chips are at the top of the town by the bridge over the river.

Benidorm is not that bad
