North or South (1 Viewer)

After umming and ahhing for a week as to whether to go North and tour Scotland and Northern Ireland again, or head south to Dover once more a decision has been made.

It's south to Dover, nothing booked but the ferry, for our 4 week trip. Our very loose itinerary is Calais to Chamonix (maybe via Belgium & Luxembourg).
We may divert before Chamonix to visit friends who have just moved into a new house at Eymoutiers, which is not far from Oradour sur Glane which we would also like to visit.

After Chamonix, then possibly using the Mont Blanc Tunnel, it will be Northern Italy then east to the south of Lake Garda to Venice, then maybe popping into Slovenia and Rijeka in Croatia then back North through Austria and Germany.

Any good Aires, campsites or must see's along that route would be appreciated.

I can safely say that Oradour Sur Glane will move you, it did me! You would need a heart of steel not to find the place deeply moving and very sad. It is also a very erie place, I can't recall hearing any bird song while there.

DIRECTIONS: Exit A41 @ Jcn 15 & take N6 SOUTH -- then follow D520 to ST PIERRE DE CHARTREUSE. Continue on to centre of village & take road towards PERQUELIN -- AIRE is 100m along this road on LEFT.

SITE DESCRIPTION: Aire is in a large gravel car park on the east edge of the village (100m from the Place de la Mairie) in a pleasant location with good views of the surrounding mountains (but no shade). Open countryside to the east. The Raclet borne with drainage platform is easy to access & use, There are shops with all the basic necessities & there are Public toilets in the centre of the village, small market on Sunday mornings.

REVIEW

2007 A very pleasant & quiet Aire -- close to the village centre. Raclet borne is very practical. Aire can be found along a small road to the right after the Mairie -- parking is allowed. A good spot for the local walks. Jetons for the water can be purchased in the village.
