Normandy this October (1 Viewer)

We've decided to bite the bullet and head for a week in Normandy in the middle of October. Once over the shock off the Eurotunnel return fare for our Elddis Majestic 120 we opted for the Dover-Calais ferry.
We'd like to tour around stopping two nights here, two nights there kind of trip. Not too fussed whether it's coastal or inland but some suggestions of good sites and/or interesting towns to look round would be greatly appreciated.

Can't offer any advice with sites, but the last time we were in France early October many of the campsites were closing down for the end of season.

I would check to see which ones were open.

We normally like short stays and moving on but for Normandy you can’t beat staying at Bayeux as it’s very central for going out and seeing the sites, plus it’s nice to walk into Bayeux along the river from the site.

Not sure if you are interested in the D Day sites but you used to be able to overnight on the Pegasus Bridge museum car park. There is a site a few minutes walk away whose name escapes me.

I wouldn't go to Bayeux or the Normandy beaches (about a 240 miles drive from Calais) if only over for a week. Plenty of interest along the coast or inland but as said, many or most camp sites will be closed - unless they make an exception this year to extend the duration of their tourist harvest.

Where you go depends upon your interests - mine's medieval history so a visit to the museum and battlefield at Agincourt was worth a 50 mile drive.

We like Honfleur.

There is a campsite and/or a massive aire with EHU. Big choice of food outlets from Big Mac to top class michelin star. The harbour is always worth a look with lots of interesting small craft (and the occaisional Seine river cruise boat).

If you like Benedictine the Monks will show you how they have made it for centuries.

We rented a house in Arromanches Les Bains in 2019 , found it very central for everything we wanted to see though we did portsmouth to cherbourg on the fastcat , just had a look seems to be aroud £420-450 return in october on a standard ferry, cuts out all the driving though

Honfleur - Bayeux - Fecamp

All the Normand beach WW2 museums and sites are great.

There are may free Aires and services along the way.

We are going from the 19th September until late October but heading towards Brittany.

If you have time I would head for the Aire at Wissant for your first night or if not the Aire at Sangatte

You will need to stop off at the Carrefour for a Baguette / ham / cheese and wine

I found the tunnel only about 30 quid dearer than the ferry..BUSBY.

Yes, we’ve just realised we could use that route and we’re nearer to Newhaven than to Dover.

You have to book by phone though, rather than online. 0800 917 1201. For clarity, the 20% discount applies as long as at least 1 person in the party is aged 60 or over, so not quite 'OAP' status!
