We are currently in the Alps and will be departing the Bourg Saint Maurice area in 4 days or so and making our way across Southern France to the Pyrenees and the Spanish border. We have been doing a lot of aires and wild camping and fancy a break on a nice campsite.

We want to avoid major honey pot tourist areas until the holidays are over. Rural setting and shade or ideally some access to water such as river or lake would be good for the dog.

Anyone know any hidden gems that might be on our route? We have no set plan so route is very flexible.

Thanks in advance.

After the 15th, things will quieten down. Search on Google for 'municipal campsites', there are lovely ones on there, not normally crowded.
