Hi all bit of advice why dose my pump desides to turn several times during the night

@Midland Nomads
Looking forward to responses to your post, as I have exactly the same issue, the water pump starts for literally 1 or 2 seconds during the night for no reason. I have checked all water pipe connections expecting to find a leak but nothing. the other issues is why does the pump sound so noisy when in operation.

Noisy ... if you want a noisy pump come round to my place when hubby's had a curry! :D

If there are no external leaks, then the non-return valve(s) within the pump are probably a bit tired (or have some dirt / scale in them). You could probably get a service kit and refurbish the pump, but if it only starts up once or twice a night, you might be better switching it off when you go to bed.

The pumps are fairly noisy anyway, but get worse if there's something resting on top of them or if the pipework is rattling against the bodywork (best to have flexible hoses either side of the pump).

As @Misterg says it could be a bit of dirt \ grit stuck in the nr valve. We had this problem a year or two back and was about to replace the whole pump but as with the issue suddenly appearing it disappeared as suddenly. Been fine since then! Well until I go to bed tonight!:RollEyes:

Ours regularly does it. Sometimes just a tiny brrrp (scuse you! ?) but Sometimes not at all.

It's the pressure sensor starting the pump as it's detecting a pressure drop. This is usually due to a tiny air leak somewhere in the system, usually untraceable, or maybe a tap not fully closed. It's a b----r to find but as long as you have no evidence of water anywhere it's not serious. Go round and check as many connections you can get at; if you find a weeping one refix it.

Happens to us occasionally but we usually turn the water pump off at night anyway.

As said above, it could also be some grit in the pump mechanism not allowing a seal to work properly. Check the in-line filter then open a tap and let it run for a while to try and flush out any crap.

When I used to fit beer pumps years ago the motor assisted pumps used to do it. Was never a leak, just the non return valve on the outlet leaking back. Some would run every few seconds.

As things cool at night the pressure will drop. Possibly enough the fire the pump.

Could be your hot water cooling off (or, at least, the hot air above it). The pump will be filling-up the space created. You could live the hot water heating on?
Best solution, if you find it irritating, is to switch it off overnight (but then the toilet flush may not work).

Pumps are noisy these days as they are external from the water tank. My old Burstner was never noisy as the pump was internal in the tank. Hope this helps!

The pump on ours used to come on during the night if I switched the hot water tank off. It stopped when the hot water on was left on overnight.

is it submersible pump, as ours has to be adjusted occasionally - something to do with a change in voltage (its a Whale).

Thank you all for your replies,reassuring it's a common thing,don't appear to have any leaks,leave it on off an evening for the toilet flush
