Why do the owners of pesky little yappy dogs allow them to yap yap yap endlessly at anyone or anything that dares to move while on an otherwise peaceful site. People passing by, birds flying past, the faint rumble of waste-master wheels etc etc etc. C’mon eh, a bit of training won't do them any actual harm, in fact it might stop them being so anti-social.

Have you asked them to shut their mutts up?

We are on a site in York and apart from one dog barking every now and then it’s ok.
Now if you had of mentioned the pigeons wooing at 5-00am or the ducks that seem to have a flight path inches from the van into the steam or the cockerel kicking of in stereo with the pigeons I might have agreed with you😂😂

Forgot to mention the kamikaze ducks that think it’s a good idea to stroll towards 2 jack Russell pups😂😂

Before I start let me say that I love all types of dogs. We've had them for the last 20 years and currently have one, who travels with us in the MH.

But why should someone have to ask somebody else to shut their dog up? Shouldn't the dog owner be socially responsible enough to control their own dogs yapping?

A bit of barking now and again isn't too bad. But I understand the pain of someone who has to put up with constant yapping, every time the wind changes direction.

One of our rescue dogs barks at other dogs .
he was used as bait for fighting dogs .

he is soft as poo until he sees another dog. We try to visit places where they are no or few dogs. And walk him in the dark or secluded places as this causes the dog a great deal off stress.
so it can’t be the owners all the time .can it !

even now 5 years on he will not eat off of a plate a dish or a bowl .

taken all this time to get him to eat off of kitchen roll paper.
this is his two favourite toys a stuffed cat and a duck.

I'll just start with I've got a Chihuahua. It does not bark, it can but does not choose to. Why do I feel guilty if we walk past a dog that starts yapping?

I was going to post a sarcastic reply but decided not to when I read your post. Wish you and your dog all the well

I don’t know why some people have a Motorhome. I hate yappy dogs, but I am going to a site, if there is one then tough.

Same as if there are kids, music, bikes etc etc.

If only everyone was more considerate of others, the ones with yappy dogs would shut them up and the ones who hated yappy dogs wouldn’t hate them so much.

I think that should read “Our dog barks thats what dogs can do.” I have owned and trained dogs for more than fifty years, and know that it is possible to train dogs to do most any reasonable thing. You need three things. Firstly you must understand dog psychology. Then you must apply your training firmly, and consistently, in a manner that dogs 'get' - they want to please. And they must know where they stand in the hierarchy, and will always test you to see if you are still top dog, or whether they need to take over.

You can tell the pack leader very easily - they are the ones pulling at the end of a long lead, the ones that barge through a door first, the ones that persistently bark (with good intent, they see it as their rôle, and haven't been told otherwise).

My dogs knew not to bark, except in certain circumstances, which we all clearly understood. A notable circumstance was was anybody of the 'tarmac-your-drive' persuasion.

But the dogs started it!!:giggle:

These two rarely bark, but if I get the lawnmower, leaf blower, hand drill, Hoover in fact anything that makes a noise then Bruno on the right goes berserk and wants to kill it. I have to shut them in the house if I want to cut the grass or lock them in another room when I hoover. Bella, the other one doesn’t make a sound just watches.

My dog barks when she is watching wrestling, she can turn the TV on herself and I am not kidding, channel section can be difficult but she is working on it. She is a 20 week yr old Border Collie, my brother asked if she could help him fix his satellite problem.

Yes it's true what you say , it's when the dog has actually TRAINED its owner and decides to bark when it chooses!

Just love that pic, look like two gangsters............

Not going to get into the barking debate as it's all been said above and in past threads.
This am i went to the compound where our MH is parked. It seemed that every person out had one or more dogs and they all wanted to poo as i approached.................................. seeing them squat ready for a poo is something i cannot stomach. Of course i turn away but one cannot unsee it. If i accidentally see one doing it it's a very nearly throw up time for me. This is why i could never own one. Pick the poo up......................no chance, more chance of nailing a blancmange to the wall.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Well trained dogs are a pleasure to everybody. When people comment on how well behaved mine are I always say " yes they were trained to be" yes they will bark if they think they need to guard but will stop immediately they are told. I find untrained kids equally annoying

Read post #7 not always the dogs fault.
I guess there are a lot of non dog owners on here, for me camping/caravanning/motor-homing, allows you to take your pets with you. For people that don't like that chose a site that doesn't allow pets, kids northerners etc

PS I am a northerner with kids and a dog
