As per thread title, what is the rattliest, noisiest Van you’ve owned. I’m starting to create a shortlist of suitable vans for an extended European trip next year and looking to avoid spending three months in a vehicle that will drive me mad with excessive noise
For context looking for a four berth van nominally for two adults ,occasionally three . Thinking A class with a drop down and a rear kitchen / bathroom to keep the noisy stuff as far away as possible. Ideally looking to take a scooter / motorbike but realise that with a Rear kitchen it would have to be towed. Want a double couch at the front too. So far narrowed it down to a Hymer 544 or a Frankia 650 or a Burstner 820. Any help would be appreciated

Start with A Carthago Chic C line, move up through the price ranges from there, very quiet, superb furniture build, massive scooter garage, drop down bed at front, options for either queen bed or two single fixed at the rear.
Separate loo & shower, dont hear of many build issues either, they are a keeper, hold their prices.
Good luck.

I can’t honestly say what was the noisiest but I can say that my Carthago is the quietest.

Our twenty year old Pilote Galaxy A class is noticeably quieter than our previous Swift Sundance coachbuilt and Talbot Camelot PVC. We can actually chat at 65mph. A new A class should be even quieter.

Have hired a few in the last couple of years to see if the van lifestyle was really for us and without exception they were all unbearably noisy . One even lost its oven as we were driving along the road . We struggled to speak to each other at speeds over 40-50mph . It really made us question whether it was for us or not. I'm aware that there are wee tricks to reduce the noise in the vans which probably weren't used in hire vehicles.
Thanks for the replies so far .

Ours was noisy when we first got it. An hour or so adjusting doors and applying hidden felt or rubber pads has really reduced the noise.

We also found it is much quieter when fully loaded, making long holiday journeys much quieter than when only packed for a quick weekend away.

Our first was a CI with an over cab bed, had it for about 8 months and realise it was not for us. Changed to a Hymer could not believe how quiet the Hymer was compared to the CI

The quietest is the new one you collect before the wife fills it with “nice” objayda- obbjaydaaa (no can’t spell it) Shit that rattles, but apparently makes the place homely.

After driving Land Rover Defenders for many years motorhomes are quiet, fast and have great fuel economy.

Most of my squeakes seem to come from the A-class cab. The drop-down bed seems to be the worst offender despite lubrication of the mechanism. The habitation area is relatively quiet.

A standard van cab must surely be much quieter. Also, you've got 2 cab doors and far better access to the engine. Think my next van is going to be semi-integrated (utilising standard cab).

Our Elddis was very noisy when new. Having spent a year finding most of the rattles it is now relatively quiet. The worst one was a squeak which turned out to be two pieces of furniture rubbing together. Took me months to find that one and it drove me mad! I think they are all noisy but with a bit of time and effort they can be improved.

Noisiest Dethleffs A class, the engine noise was horrific you could not here the radio, the engine insulation ended 6 inches from the windscreen, leaving a gap with only fibreglass to blank out the engine noise.
Quitest so far our current Rollerteam Pegaso, no real rattles or overwhelming engine noise.

We hired a Baileys Autograph before biting the bullet and buying a MH. It was incredibly noisey!

One of our Chaussons wasn’t too noisy, a few squeaks and rattles maybe but every so often there would be a massively loud “BOINNNNNNG” from the drop down bed that used to frighten the lives out of us! Never did find what was causing it.

You need a large diesel pusher RV with the engine 30 Feet + behind you :) You can put a scooter or motorbike on the rear carrier so no need to tow .

Only on my 2nd MH but the Rapido is much much quieter than the Swift ever was.

The oven and any stored bottles / jars are the worst culprits

I have put extra insulation and extra carpet in the cab and it seems much better but cant try it on the road yet, years ago i had a diesel p100 sierra pickup although it was quiet at tickover inside the cab was horrendous at 60mph so i sprayed underseal all under the cab and up into the transmission tunnel it was ok then

Ford Herald Squire CK 1998 it was a transit based van and by god at 65 it sounded like a tank on full throttle and you could not hear what your passenger was saying.

Loud was not a word I could you it was a bone crushing ride that needed ear mufflers.

Not really had a noisy one but the noisiest would be our first one a Hymer Tramp two vans since then have been A Class so much quieter than one with a van cab.

You must be joking, A Class van are so much quieter, a lot less engine noise & tyre noise. With an A Class no need to raise your voice or turn the radio up when doing 70 like you have to in a standard coach built.

Having only had one van, I have nothing to compare it with but our Bailey 620, when full, is not noisy except when on Italian side roads when our shaking bones drown out the tortured shrieking of the suspension.
Ordinarily, we can drive around, rattle free with radio on at normal levels and can still hear Stella, our sat nav, telling us to "perform a u turn"!

We had a 10-year-old (at the time) Besssacar 735 and we couldn't drive more than 100 miles at a time because it was so noisy. Tried wrapping everything so no rattles with the stuff we carried but the cabinets, rubbing doors and the suspension were so loud it hurt over anything but a super smooth road.

It drove us back to having a caravan again - but that got old VERY quickly! Now with an Autotrail Delaware HB we seem to have a good handle on keeping the noise down! 🤞
