Burstner Argos 747-2
Hi all,

New member here.

Would love your thoughts on a water issue in Barry, our 2007 Burstner Argos 747-2.

So there's no water coming through any of the taps - kitchen, washroom or shower.

Water pump is on.

There is water in the tank.

Water pump is running when taps are turned on.

Thinking it was an airlock, I removed the shower head from the shower, turned shower on to activate pump and sucked on the shower hose - water did indeed come through, but stopped when I stopped sucking.

Checking the washroom and kitchen taps, water was now in these taps, but only a little and it stopped running after a few seconds.

Checking the fresh water tank and pump (which is submerged), I can't see any obvious leaks in the pipework, and when I leave a tap open (and therefore the pump running) I can't see the water level going down in the tank.

Is it an issue with the pump? It's as if the pressure is too low to manage to run the water through the taps?

I'm a bit stumped here, and would love your thoughts.

Cheers,
Colin

I had the same symptoms with my Burstner which has a submersible Reich pump and after a little bit of investigation it turned out that both pump impellers had detached due to the spindles corroding. The attached pic was taken after I had cut the bottom off the pump just to find out what had happened. Plenty of pumps available online and not that difficult to fit.

Are any drain valves open, does water appear under van when pump is running?

Lift the pump and tap it against the tank wall.
Sometimes get an airlock in the pump itself
Failing that, it may be the pumps impeller has either stripped the vanes or the center shaft cutout has stripped and the shaft is just spinning in the hole

Thanks for all the replies!

No drain valves open, no water under the van.

In each of these instances you describe above, the pump would still sound like it's working, right?

I will check out the pump itself and see how I get on.

If you have the same problem that I had the pump still runs, so it sounds like its working, but it just won’t pump any water. I removed mine and put in in a bucket of water hooked up a 12v supply (removing any airlock/pipework issues) and this quickly proved that it wasn’t pumping.

Instead of sucking try taking off the filler cap and blowing hard down the shower hose. Worked for me in the past

Exactly what I used to do with our Burstner.

Does it actually have a submersible pump?

Had the same needed new pump

Yes, it's a submersible pump.

So to test it, I removed hose from the top of the pump, filled the water tank some, turned a tap on, and whilst pump whirred, no water came out the top of the pump. So duff pump it seems to be.

In terms of disconnecting and wiring the new one, can someone explain this connection to me, in terms of actually removing the wires and connecting the new ones.

Cheers,
Colin

Its been connected by the blue straight crimp connectors. You can use any type including chock block.
Cut the wires before blue connectors

They are crimped connectors and you just snip the wires and remake them with a new crimp (check out YouTube videos if you haven't used crimps before to see how to make them) or have a look at Screwfix/Toolstation at Wago connectors which are easier to install and you won/t need crimping tool.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Picked up a new pump from my local parts shop and fitted it this afternoon. Hey presto, loads of water through the taps.

But how fiddly was it to fit!? You can only get one hand in the tank and you can't see what you're doing. But it's fitted and working so that's the main thing.

Thanks again!
