I'm not sure I like the fact that anyone can check the status of any vehicle. Looks like a cloners charter.

I've just fired off an email to DVLA pointing out to them the error of their ways and suggesting that rather than allowing ANYONE to check the status of a vehicle, the checker should include the 11 figure No. that is present on the Registration Doc as is the case for SORNing or similar.

My point exactly.
And now, thanks to those incompetents at DVLA, you don't have to worry about the legal vehicle not having Tax. You can check for yourself Doh!!!

I've stated this in the past;

Fraudulent tax disc dodging - £1000 fine
No insurance - £1000 fine
No MOT - £1000 fine
mobile phone use - £1000 fine

That might cure the beggers - it would certainly make me think.

They don't need to log onto that site to clone. Any newish car parked in the street is bound to be taxed. Just find a car the same model/colour/age as your own, buy plates from ebay, and your car becomes the taxed car.

I think a better system would be to have paper discs stuck to the inside of windscreens.

It would be so much more private. People couldn't go on line to check then, they would actually have to go outside and look.

Novel, but I doubt it'll ever catch on;)

Of course it wont catch on.
The idea that something tried, tested and working can actually last is just preposterous!

The current max penalty for no insurance is £5000
The current max penalty for no MOT....£1000
The current max penalty for using a mobile.....£1000

Doesnt seem to deter some folks

No John, because in reality, the maximum fines never apply.

No insurance......Approx £150 plus points.
No MOT........£50.00, no points for this offence.
Phone....Around £100, because it's usually a fixed penalty offence, plus points

Just my opinion - actually, I firmly believe that all fines should be as a percentage of your income; Amazon, Costa and a few others companies management exempt of course.

No, if you check the completed listings the only ones sold are the cheapies, the speculative starting prices around £200 have not sold.

Anywhere when you can find out when the MOT runs out? Paperwork mislaid, I know it is sometime in April.
