No more testing en route back (feb 11th)

But why from the 11th, is that a magical date. I return on the 4th
Because they still need 2 weeks of fleecing you would be the cynical answer

We have been away many times over the last 18 months. The Rules have changed every single time. We have never come back with the same rules/testing/isolation.

One trip cost us £600 in testing.

One trip led to us having to isolate for 2 weeks, no choice. As the UK Government put The Netherlands on the Quarantine list whilst we were heading that way on the ferry. We had avoided France & Spain for that reason. At least people in France were given time to return.

Testing now stands us at over £2,000 just for the two of us.

When I came back from Switzerland by air on Saturday I did not realise I needed to have ordered a Day 2 test until I was on the train to the airport. I found Tests4You on line and it only cost me about £7.50 to order a test which was delivered by DHL the next day. So while the tests are stupid, since I am triple vaccinated and recently recovered from covid, it did not break the bank.

I agree why pick that date and not 31st January. Unfortunately we get caught either way...29th on the tunnel for us.. but 11th Feb? Seems strange..... must be the science....

I think it’s an excellent date. Coming back on the 12th. Selfish I know and I’m sorry. Please forgive me 😇
What do you fancy for the Cheltenham Gold Cup !

?? Half term ?? - or am I being cynical ??
bit like the stadium restrictions being lifted, when ?? - oh, just before the 6 nations tournament
for science, I think read 'commerce' / money

It was said in the statement that it was to free up the important half term holidays???

Begs the question aired here and many other forums, why are so many triple vaccinated catching a Covid virus, which is it a vaccine or what!
Is it a SARS2 Virus or Flue as the tests are not specific which has been well publicised.
Testing, Isolation, Quarantine, Mobile phone Apps, tracing, all for what, I now have no idea. Many say it could be worse if not vaccinated, however this also seems in doubt for the person with no under lying illness.
Totally confused and disappointed in the general acceptance of dictates.

So, I wonder where the "science" is in this decision. Just wondering because I know for a fact of a group of 10 friends who have just returned from a week in Italy where I am told they adhered to all the rules regarding Covid. They are all vaccinated and boosted. Two of them tested positive on their day 2 tests, confirmed with PCR. So nothing really has changed risk wise, just the politics maybe?

It would appear it's easier to catch the Omicron variant of Covid, but if you are triple jabbed you are unlikely to end up in either hospital or coffin.

80% (or 90%, depending on the figures) of the people currently ending up in either hospital or coffin have not been jabbed at all.

How did you manage to do a PLF if you hadn't ordered the day 2 test?

I had booked a flight from Geneva to Dublin, expecting to spend some time in Ireland before coming home, and had completed a PLF for Ireland, for which no Day 2 test is needed. Unfortunately during the train journey to Geneva I found out that I had to come back to England directly. After booking a new flight I had to complete a PLF for the UK, which required proof that I had booked a Day 2 test. I found Tests4You.com online and they sorted me out with reference number and the test arrived by DHL the next day for less than £8.

My reckoning is it’s because it’s half term for the schools around then 😂
