The last few times we have taken our van out we have discovered dozens of house flies in the door jamb. They are not in the van at all, apart from a couple that fly in when we open the door, the same thing happened a couple of days ago but luckily the flies were dozy. Any thoughts appreciated.
We think they may be hibernating!

You're right, look up "cluster flies".

I took the van for a battery charging trip the other week.

I needed to put the engine sourced heating on to keep the windscreen clear.

After about an hour a very sleepy looking wasp crawled out of one of the heater vents!

I considered it as an ominous warning for Spring. :(

We had flygeddon in one of our old vans there were hundreds in the roll out awning o_O

A couple of years ago we had ladybirds overwintering in the uPVC windows where casements open.
Had to brush them out.
Immigrants apparently, not native species.
But none last year or this winter....... so far

We always seem to get inundated with Lacewings and Ladybirds hiding in all the nooks and crannies .... but we were out in the moho this Christmas and 2 queen wasps appeared from their slumbers. :Eeek:

Yes where our friends live in Devon it is atrocious for flies & they fill the whole of the door openings where the rubber sits. I took to gassing the whole door surround before opening each time I wanted to use the van

Blimey you’ve managed to turn this into a gassing thread ?

If in an isolated area just clear them away and rub with something they won’t like, maybe a silicone spray oil?

Have a check on the fridge grill vents.
If they haven't got a mesh on the inside, make sure to get them installed.
Flies love the heat coming off the fridge, especially in the Autumn.

Do you rub the back of the fly or it’s front?
It could be very time consuming if theres a lot of them!?

It would have been a hibernating queen wasp. :)
