on a campsite in Belgium and the hook up tester shows no earth. I am getting complaints as the hairdryer is required in the morning. My question is, is it safe?

Assuming it's a plastic bodied hairdryer it should be fine. Not ideal, but the risk will be close to zero - assuming the hairdryer is in good shape. Just ensure the wet hair doesn't come too close to the nozzle where the hot air comes out and particularly the air intake.

Our hairdryer doesn't have an earth, it's just twin cable.

Just make sure she's standing not only in a puddle when using H/D,


But also that the life insurance is fully up to date.

Most electric appliances now only have two wires , shaver, hair dryer, radios , tv , s trimmer, electric drill, lawn mower, all sorts.

You'll often find the earth pin on the plug of many appliances is plastic so makes no connection.

Does it have a symbol on the hair dryer of one square within another? If so its OK without an earth.

The van interior electrics are self-contained and earthed to the chassis. Within the van whatever happens you are perfectly safe. If a (very specific) fault developed the van exterior could become connected to the Live. If this happened (and it won't) you would still be totally protected whilst inside the van - you just might want to make sure you don't place one foot on the ground whilst the other is still on the step as you leave .
