What do you want to photograph and how? I have no experience of the camera but the reviews suggest it is heavy and bulky.

I have an Olympus OM-D camera largely because it is very compact. It suits me because it is easy to carry around. However, it needs a range of lenses to cover all the things I want photograph. The Nikon seems to do it all but comes with a downside.

Go for it. I have the P900 and it’s very impressive. The P1000 is a worthy upgrade and should produce even better images.
Ok, it’s not up to dslr standards, having a small sensor, but images are perfectly respectable and zooming in when videoing will blow your mind.
It certainly isn’t heavy either.

Just found this taken with my P900. Heron was about 1/4 mile away.

More than toes wet now!
Been looking around at a number of bridge cameras (absolute amateur btw) and had a look at the P1000. Far too bulky and heavy for my "point and shoot" requirements particularly when you add in tripod, etc.
Still considering a P900 but may very well end up with a real cheapy Panasonic DC-FZ82. Just waiting to see what comes around in Black Friday \ Cyber Monday events.

I have a P900 which I obtained specifically for a S African safari that we had to cancel due to health problems. I haven't used it very often though as I prefer my little Canon that goes in my pocket or even my phone Samsung S10 with its 4 cameras especially the 'estate agents' wideangle.

Incredible photo for 800metres. I have Fuji X-T3 with 100-400mm lens. Even with a 1.4 TC at equivalent 900mm I'd struggle at 50 metres with that shot.
It really is a great camera for long distance shots, I haven't tried it yet but there are loads of pictures online of the moon taken with one and the detail is just incredible. For wildlife and birds I think it's unbeatable.

The only reason I didn't get it, as a birder, is that I was expecting a fair bit of noise unless the conditions were sunny, because of the small sensor. My wife has the Canon SX70 and it's very good in bright conditions, but on an overcast day it suffers badly.

With a small sensor I'm sure it will also struggle with low light conditions but thats where photoshop comes in.

They do struggle a bit with low light, but, you don’t buy one for that. But, it has a “ moon” mode and using that, images you take of the moon are really good.
Video is pretty good too, Video something in the far distance than zoom fully in. It will knock your socks off!

Haven't tried the 4K video yet, so much to learn with this camera. I've only just downloaded the snap bridge app so I can use my phone as a remote when on the tripod.

The more I use this camera the better I like it. The picture quality really is good for such a small sensor.
